the cones!!

Problem solved-well the first step anyway!
Furthest away, top shelf, nearest, bottom shelf. Front cones on the left, back cones on the right.

Now to learn the mysteries of getting the right length flame and using the damper to even out the temperature in the kiln.....

  2. the cones soften, bend and melt at different temperatures, these for example are number 06, designed to "touch their toes" at just over 1000 Centigrade.
So those at the rear of the kiln went a little over, and those at the front a bit under temperature!

  3. The ones on the right look a bit sad. Or very relaxed.
