Again, of course, I recognise most of these places. Scary.....too like working again!! There used to be a decent Deli in the market, great for snadwiches for lunch. changed hands and lost a lot of its prior glory, for me. The books - spent a few quid there over the years. I don't recognise the first pic, though. Must be an addition/improvement(??!!) made after I left. After the better part of 30 years plus mostly in the area, you get to know it well and a lot of its people too. Best.
The first pic is the stairs of the multistorey carpark near the train station! The seventh is from by the corner of the market, looking up Stow Hill, The Westgate Hotel, of Chartist history on the left, STILL boarded up and for sale. The HSbc bank on the right. I'll have to take another from opposite the PO!!
Just found your blog by accident or serendipity? I live in Newport, great pics, I wish the rest of the city centre was still like that, I was there today and there are so many derelict shops and a general air of abandonment, so sad, it was so busy and vibrant when I was a kid! Lisa x
