We haven't had it too bad here...some rain, some snow. But mainly cold and blustery, while friends a little higher twenty miles away had a couple of inches of snow!
Yesterday's walk had two bird occasions to remember..
A herring gull trying to tack against the wind...it gave up after a while.
Then a sparrowhawk trying to hover, unsuccessfully.
Sounds like Winter is thawing out a bit.

ReplyDeleteThink the sunny South got the worst, we are 2 miles from Gatwick and there was a big impact here but my house is still standing :)
ReplyDeleteI often wonder how all the backward-flying birds you do see in high winds manage to land on branches, etc. Maybe they land backwards too?

ReplyDeleteMany years ago the dale used to be called Yoredale after the river but then the plague swept through and the village of Wensley, which is only a mile from Leyburn (where I live and which is the largest town in the dale)took over the name and it has been Wensleydale ever since.
