Gallery day and travelling

 No photos taken yesterday...

Changed routes there and back...and I must be getting fitter....took less time and didn't walk so many hills!

It did rain a little...but thankfully on the way home!!

I do need to ride and walk...but I'll be glad to get my car back!!

Let's hope the big national company has offered our local bus drivers a sensible deal...they are back driving...ballot on Friday.

Why can't they say, you do this job for us....these are the rates and conditions wherever you are? I understand what has always been called "London Weighting", a bit more in expensive cities....but....

  1. I don't understand it either.
Our bus service is still Government run. Not sure that we would want it privatised.

  2. Would you take the bus anyway with all those connection waiting times you described? Getting fitter doesn't take long does it? Just a bit of application.

    1. I'm surprised how much fitter I am already. I think taking the bus ..and the stress of worrying about missing connections.. would be worse...as would standing about in wet weather as opposed to keeping warm pedalling in the wet!!

  3. In Japan when the drivers were in discussions regarding their pay and conditions, instead of striking, they turned up for work each day, and refused to collect any fares, so hurting their employer not the travelling public.

  4. I'm glad you live where you can still be functional without a car, but yes, with neither car nor bus, it's a bit strenuous.

  6. Riding the bike in good weather seems ideal, plus the exercise is great for overall health. The car is still essential, especially in poor weather conditions.
My British relatives say bus transportation has been in decline for a while and can't be relied upon like it was many years ago.

    1. It has indeed. Increase in car use is only partly the reason.
Privatisation of bus services has not improved anything, plus the big companies buying up smaller local ones and running the service down so that it becomes inconvenient to use buses for travel

  7. I think we all need to walk. But I neglect it and it's taking it's toll. I must return to it, even in small steps. (pun sort of not intended)
