Today started warm and got slightly hot...
Not the 33⁰ as in the Southeast of England...but did briefly top 20⁰...and two lots of washing dried very nicely!!
Today has been getting things back to "normal".. whatever that is!!
After a late lunch more fruit was picked
That is about the end of the redcurrants, and the gooseberries that should be red...they are just beginning to turn colour...
The small blackcurrants are just that...the big ones are Jostaberries ( blackcurrant x gooseberry)
Then after a tea break I uncovered half of a large raised bed, loosened the soil and added some mature compost. Added some calcified seaweed for minerals and good bacteria...like a probiotic!! And started planting leek seedlings.
I think that I have rather too many...as the first lot didn't germinate I may just have overcompensated when the second lot got sown....
The garlic that has been drying is due to be cleaned and tidied before finishing drying...but that can wait until tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI always grow extra leeks. Then I harvest clean and chop up. I freeze them in little zip lock baggies and freeze them for use during winter. They’re great for stews, soups and even for pasta sauce. Especially in the slow cooker.
I've frozen a lot so far, but I've always used them fresh, made preserves and in cooking.

I find travel really tiring, even though it largely involves just sitting, so I usually take the next day off to recover. You seem much hardier than me!

DeleteSome worthwhile pickings there. My raspberries have gone mad - a combination of good weather from April onwards and next door's stable muck heap. I hadn't put up stakes/wire and when I ventured up there yesterday the poor plants were bent double under the weight of the fruit. I was picking for 20 mins. Rosie will be happy! I will have to get stakes and wire and get it TIDY up there. Also, note to self, feed that poor wee Blackcurrant bush. Not ONE currant on it.
ReplyDeleteWhat raspberries I have, have started ripening..I need a different corner in the garden for them! They have always struggled as they get the full force of the wind as it exits the wind tunnel between two houses !

Hope you're going to make a pavlova to put those berries on. Seaweed is the best to put in the garden.
