A special day

Pirate would have been 86 today..so I did things that would have made him happy.

Cleared the garden path...he used to look out of our bedroom window first thing every day and always wanted the path clear....

Picked my first "Russian Black" tomato

Heard from his eldest daughter that her son passed his degree with a 1st...and it was cap and gown day today

Bus trip this afternoon to the travel agent...I have my boarding passes for the French Trip and I will get them in an email as well...all eventualities covered.

I practised small bag packing... I think that I have everything in...now to see if the vacuum packing bags will work to give a little more packing space. Putting a light cardboard box inside the bag looks to have worked..to ensure that the bad doesn't bulge ..I have no wish to be charged...about £50...each way!!

No pretty coloured sky tonight...but still a beautiful one

The flap of skin that got pushed up in the scrape looks to have stayed down...Aloe Vera gel has helped as well.,

  1. That's a very nasty bruise on the back of your hand. I hope it heals up properly.

    1. The darker mark is an age pigmentation.I'm fortunate that there is little bruising

  3. You must be a master at packing for international travel. That path does indeed look cleared. I spread 10 bags of sodden horse manure on my garden to be today. Just waiting for comments from the neighbours about the rich odeur.

    1. Packing light incentivised by Pirate who was an "everything bar the kitchen sink" style of packer!!

    2. Far better than the harshness of chook....or pig, being very like human....healthy horse manure is quite a sweet smell, like the smell of a healthy horse

    3. I’ve heard that it’s meat in the diet that makes the worst odour; vegetarian animals and humans have far less smelly “output” — but I suppose this is not news to anyone who has worked with livestock!

  4. Lovely way to remember Pirate. I find so much more comfort in celebrating loved ones on their birthdays rather than death days.
I think my finest packing was many years ago when son went to Russia (then USSR) I managed to get everything he needed for two and a half weeks into one just a bit larger than carry-on bag. By trip's end he was much envied.

  5. Remembering Pirate on his day and clearing the path because he loved a pristine path is lovely.
Travel to France and being with friends will be enjoyable.
    Congratulations to the graduate!

  6. I hope Pirate feels close today. Glad you are doing things he'd have approved of. I am in the last week of Keith's life a year ago and it is hard . . .

  9. That’s a nasty looking Ouchie
I’m sure pirate is looking down on you and smiling. The pathway is very clean and mess free

  10. Stupid question: How does one get all one’s gear *home* if one used a vacuum cleaner to fit everything in on the outward journey? :D

    1. My friend where I am staying has a vacuum cleaner! I'm sure that if you were staying elsewhere any establishment would have one you could use...

  12. Remembering birthdays of those who have passed on is such mixure (of love, sadness, happy memories) I hope your hand heals properly inside that nasty gash. France of course is where I have just been, packing light isn't so much the problem as resisting the temptation to bring too many things back! everything looks so pretty, tasteful and, well, French in the shops!
