I met a cycling friend and one of her flatmates today in Ayr. Coffee in Puck's and a short wander as they'd never been to Ayr. They are from Aberdeen so are more used to grey granite rather than red sandstone buildings!
We had cycling business to deal with, but also they had had their last exam of the year this morning at uni in Glasgow...so it was out and away!!!
Just a thought...they were travelling on their young person's Saltire card, so being under 22 had free bus travel. That is the glorious thing about cycling...whatever your age you have something in common and talk and equals.
Then afterwards it can hit you...they could be my grandkids!!
Annoyingly I had to cut things short to go to the optician. I'm hoping I've just an irritated eye due to "hayfever" of some sort. No appointment available...but advice from the receptionists...and more from our village pharmacy when I returned to Drongan, plus soothing and hydrating eye drops.
Hopefully they will do the trick....if not I'm sure that I could get help in France.
These things do time themselves well, don't they?!!
I hope those eye drops do the trick!
ReplyDeleteHope your eye improves.
ReplyDeleteSore eyes can be very painful. Definitely use the drops and maybe wash out with saline. I’m sure you can get those little vials in the pharmacy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon
the pharmacist gave me two types of eye drops on prescription
DeleteFree bus travel for under-22s is a great idea. Do we have that in London? I don't even know. I think I get free travel too, when I turn 60-something.
ReplyDeleteretirement age in England....60 in Wales and Scotland. I don't think England does any others
DeleteI find, sharing a common interest makes for great conversation, regardless of age.
ReplyDeleteAs needed, I use Claritin during allergy season. It works well for itchy eyes caused by hay fever. Also, for soothing eyes at night hexon free castor oil is great.
60 is retirement age?!!! That is very cool.
ReplyDeleteused to be...but here and Wales you still get your free travel card at 60
DeleteAt some point in the not too distant past the state government changed all public transport fares to 50c - not sure how it is going, as I live where there is very limited public transport available. Good luck with the eyes!
ReplyDeleteit is Spring for you there so I guess hayfever and other allergies are going to start happening, hope you got some medication, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThose travel benefits don't accrue here at any age (virtually no public transport to use it on anyway). Having things in common with different generations is a joy to both sides of that equation. I suspect too few older folks are open to what they can learn from youth.
ReplyDeletethink there are concessions available...I remember we were asked if we had our cards when going by local bus from Te Aroha to Hamilton
Deletejust checked...for 65+ who are in receipt of NZ superannuation....ie the government pension...you get the SuperGold card, called the Gold Card, for all sorts of concessions. So it it linked with getting. an NZ pension not just your age as far as I can see.
