i am getting ready in a month or so to make and put up some autumn olive berry jelly. It grows wild around here and the berries are red about the size of a pea. Very tasty.
The bat detector sounds interesting -- we can see them flying about here about dusk. I built a bat house once (its on the barn wall) but I'm not sure there are any in there??
It was a bad summer here on the prairie, so I only canned enough vegetables to get us through 'til perhaps March...
April and May will just have to be store purchased. After you taste an heirloom tomato, though....wow....you can never go back to grocery store perfect red orbs.
yesterday I passed a house which has the most beautiful pear tree trained to grow up the wall. Alas the pears, golden and juicy were lying on the path unwanted. Wouldn't happen in Brittany, they'd have been collected and bottled by now.
Hi, I've removed word verification...so if all goes well I'll leave it off..... Please leave a pebble in the pool ((o)) even if you don't want to comment, it is nice to see where you all come from! Thanks!
oh, hey, we made apple pear chutney last week, and looks like you did too!
ReplyDeletejust pears this time
ReplyDeleteOne of the best chutneys around. We love it too. Made loads last year when in Charentes. Must try more this year....pears about ready here, too.
ReplyDeleteI think our well must have filled up a bit with all the rain from yesterday and today! Canning weather indeed!
ReplyDeleteLots more pears just up the road.
