  3. I'm so sorry. I never met him but feel I know him a little bit from your stories of your travels and adventures and he seemed well named The Pirate. I won't try to give advice everyone is different and will grieve in their own way but will hope that the many friends you have online and in person will be a comfort to you. Jessica.

  8. I'm so sorry to read this. I am a latecomer to your blog, so don't know of the adventures you had together but it sounds like you had a wonderful life together, and the Pirate was quite a character.

    Thinking of you.

  9. I am crying. Never to see new photos of your (our) Pirate striding down lanes or winging round velodromes?

My dear, to you who took those photos—my heart goes out.

To Pirate: you have finished your race—well run. Or, rather, well ridden.

  13. If I lived anywhere nearby, I'd be over in a flash to give you a big hug, and some tissues. So sorry we're only connected through the net...but I do feel I've known your Pirate through your love shown here on your blog. What a wonderful companion he's been, and a true athlete! Thank you for sharing so much of your lives together, so I can know a bit of how rich these times were. Everything we are saying now is but a drop of compassion, and can easily be forgotten. But your dear Pirate will live on in your memory.

  44. I have only read this today, as I have not been looking at blogs for over a month - life has been so busy here (it is nothing serious, but very, very time consuming). So I was so saddened to learn today that Pirate passed away over two weeks ago.The pair of you always seemed such good companions - indeed, soulmates - and you had so much fun together over the years. I have been reading your blog for a long time and have quite a picture of what he was like. I am glad that he worked so hard to stay kind and helpful and was able to remain "himself"and reach out to others right up to the last days.

It's been so hard for both of you, and now you are being practical and brave. As with anything very tough, please be very kind and gentle with yourself too. And please accept my very sincere condolences. Jenny
