Landed

 Back home...no photos today!!

I missed the way on to the Expressway by Llaneurgain (Northop in English!!)

So had a gentle start on old roads that I'd ridden and driven on at the end of the 70s...and topped up the fuel before getting on the big roads. Starting at a bit after  9.30 am was a good idea. The traffic was busy but flowing.

Not at all stressful and an easy drive right to Tebay for my lunch stop and leg stretch. Also good dry weather all the way....until we approached the border...

Then I found that the screen wash had run out...so leaving the motorway and all the spray was preferable!! And the rain stopped. Thankfully!

A stop in Dumfries where a friend had offered a break...soup roll and a cuppa set me up for the last 55 miles. I think he needed the company ,as he works mainly from home, and his father died not long ago. It gave him a break too.

Then a quick stop for essentials from the Co-op in Thornhill. From there to home is always an hour! 38 miles through the dusk with a bright pink sky and grey clouds...and arriving at 5.15 as it settled into night.

I think that everything is in from the car...the clothes washing ready, but that won't get done tomorrow as heavy rain is forecast. Cleaning the car out properly will have to wait as well.

A good thing I came back today!!

Sounds ike you really had a good run. Except for the rain
As I get older my anxieties surrounding driving get worse.
Driving on unfamiliar roads
Driving in the rain and driving in the dark
It was lovely you had time for a stop and something to eat at your friends home. It’s always nice to break u the long drive and yes check on your friends as well

Home safe and sound before the weather breaks sounds good.

Home again must feel good. Although you do seem to enjoy lots of travel. Do you have a preference?

What a trip you have had. Beautiful people and beautiful sights, all wrapped up in memories. Welcome home, Gwynneth.

That's a really long drive - and so tiring on your own (even with decent breaks). I hate arriving home after dark and needing to unload the vehicle. I'm the oldest of 3 - when the family got home late from visiting grandparents my siblings got carried indoors still asleep and I had to walk carrying all the stuff from the car - warm motoring through the dark to rude awakening and cold night air.

I feel the need to travel...and Pirate broadened that..
But I know that I need to concentrate on doing things here as well....

When we did get a family car..I think I was about 12? Dad used to start long journeys overnight to have clearer roads...and the two of us were supposed to sleep!

I rather like arriving home after long journeys though I’m always irrationally fearful of an unexpected letter or some sort of disaster awaiting.
On different note . I too remember Saphron Lane in Leicester and Tony Doyle as king of the boards

You do travel to a variety interesting of places. I have enjoyed reading your blog for some time, thank you. I have not previously commented. This evening I read news about a Whanganui Ceramics Museum closing and thought of you as I read you were in Whanganui when here in NZ recently. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rnz.co.nz%2Flife%2Fculture%2Frare-beast-whanganui-ceramics-museum-closes-for-now%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExamNxak9Cd05qYnZUcFFmVnNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7OPdorfz3TfuIe2M8ZiMJ_C_QH5-cZJqGYH5I9wSt-107W8MnrLmwoRyBCvg_aem_L6fHG6EfSQpF8yd-z_7pFg&h=AT2chbOoFKxwVUYwTqLVg3r0EDPqHY0UYRlZcctZY6ydGnOv9IBJho4J1Z-VuCqesX8jQahpJvibEdfRKfT5V8-IKD8vTEIEDs7yFldkgCiqeZ3vsog80_NYwCVnLPuXbHcCpmUbB53619R_n3k6BmqiQ5QL-0r7&__tn__=R]-R&c[0]=AT2hvlAS7_7yGx-U44HmCgdmE5c9v4ASCXVyHRqfTKkiJbAkA1JxVAkHgkYyKJVbmY03c1QKeRSrqa_UEiMCw_eLVlt7C5rEhUbvXwJJLy4Jt4BB6JDlXRVQTWa_DB46U2-nXXDarkOmfw0ZXkzwiz8By05MWT8j1cTA0y3i-F6LJllO6ortjc6bXDENtyIW4o2L

Driving from Devon to NW Scotland, Stopping for a bowl of Ham Broth at Tebay became a tradition whether a meal time or not. I hope they still serve it.
Tebay run Gloucester services down west, a worthwhile stop but no Ham Broth.
Glad all went well on your road trip.

Rick had been trying for years to get the help needed to keep the museum going. It is a great loss not just to Whanganui but to ceramics in NZ..and that has a great part in ceramics in the world.

I love the building and the site design at the Gloucester services
