Four or five years ago on this day we were mowing the grass for the first time that year...wearing shorts, jandals, sunnies and hats!!
This morning I looked out....no way, too cold!!!
But the grass did need a trim...and the clouds stopped hiding the sun....
A square of garden was sorted, loosened and rows made for tatties....all are now planted.. I tried mowing the grass, but my mower has no catcher. I'd forgotten that I was supposed to have been looking for one...What grass cuttings there were went on the tattie beds.
Then a weeding job, pulling the grass which had submerged the Alpine strawberry ground cover in the currant, blueberry snd goosegog beds.
A nice job in a fairly sheltered corner, sitting in the sun. The sky stayed clear until sunset.
Another chilly night!
...soon I will need to mow the weed and to my delight the mower started today!

DeleteGood progress. Danny managed to kill my (almost new) mower so now I have an old chap (hah, younger than me!!) to cut the lawn for me and make the wild triangles tidy in the autumn.
ReplyDeleteWhen we had our little cottage in Drummore down below Stranraer on the mull of Galloway we had to have the grass cut all year round, there was no let up from the weeds either being on the gulf stream it was so very mild and we were very sheltered unless we had the wind coming at us from the sea.
ReplyDeleteDown here in cold and wet Yorkshire I have still to get my potatoes in, they have more than sprouted now.
Home grown potatoes really do taste better

ReplyDeleteThree days ago the night temp was 55ºF. last night we had frost. What can I say? it's New England weather. Lovely that you grow your own potatoes. New potatoes are a treat!

ReplyDeleteWe had a heavy frost last night The frost has damaged the Magnolia tree buds and slightly open flowers. It is now 47 degrees F, breezy and cool outside.
Warmer weather will be appreciated. Hopefully it is coming soon.
You did get a lot done. One thing we won't miss is the big mowing job that was getting beyond a joke, needing to be attended every 10 days or so. Here there are 2 small patches that will be done in less than a half hour - bliss! I don't know that we can do potatoes here - although some have success in sacks. Sweet potatoes, however, grow abundantly.
