Dismal

I was glad that I'd lifted the rest of the garlic yesterday..the second half followed the first, to hang from the shelf in the greenhouse.

The first half I cleaned off the earth and broken skin and they are now left for the tops to dry properly.

Last night's sky...at the back...

And the front...

The last one was taken holding the phone as high as possible in order to see more of Arran!!

This morning my garage man was let down yet again...so I phoned my landlord who also owns a small garage about 15 miles away and is a good mechanic.
Would you believe that he has just had an operation on his knee!! No mechanicing for two weeks!!
He is asking around to try and find someone who will do the job...and I trust him not to pass me on to anyone dodgy!!

Dismal news on a dismal day. It is cold and wet.

So this afternoon I set the bread machine going, sewed patchwork and made falafels with Dal I had in the freezer, grated carrot and blitzed the dry end of a loaf for breadcrumbs...a little gram flour and water, some extra spices ( ras el hanout mix) ...half gone in supper, half in the freezer.
Nicely warming!!

Beautiful sky.
Shame it's not a little warmer up here. It is supposed to be summer isn't it?

That's a lot of garlic! Your veg gardening is impressive.

Pity about your landlord being out of action but good that you trust him to find someone reliable. I have garlic envy.

The car saga goes on. I wish you could get a mechanic to show up.

Does this mean your heat wave is over?
The old wives say plant garlic on the shortest day of the year and harvest on the longest. But honestly the climate has changed so much, having lived here for over thirty years I really notice the difference. That I now have to go by weather forecasts and gut instincts. Luckily garlic is hardy.

Rather envious of falafel - could do with something that feels and tastes a bit decadent right now. I hate frying though and used to cook mine in a roasting dish in the oven. Oh for an oven. Dashed annoying about your car... get an e-bike and a big bike trailer perhaps.

I hope you find a more trustworthy mechanic!

My mechanic is trustworthy..just that he is having problems getting the help he needs to do certain jobs

I haven't been baking for a couple of years now...
Even with a e-bike and trailer I reckon the family round trip would be too far!!

We are just on the edge of the heat wave, looking at the whole of Europe..and it isn't going away for a while yet.

The mechanic is ok, the problem is the one who says he will help but doesn't turn up

It is indeed!

So hard to get good help - your poor mechanic. I have just caught up on a few posts - never seen raspberries growing before! I only ever get most berries (except strawberries) from the frozen section.

That garlic harvest is indeed impressive. And nothing can make your spirits lift than a loaf of fresh bread from the bread machine.

That is quite a harvest. How long have you been without a car now? It seems like a very long time.

Nice use of what you had on hand to make a meal! I don't think i will get any garlic this year. My hubby didn't plant it for me last fall when I was laid up. I put some in this spring but it doesn't look very hopeful. Sad, because I got such a great crop last year.
