From a tree just over the road...not by a house, on the verge by the telephone exchange! It looks very much like one grown from a discarded apple core. It is a late season bloomer, so missed early cold then dry weather...and the cold and wet..
Last year's crop was mediocre...this year it is covered!! They are ready to pick before being ripe, and ripen slowly very nicely after picking...they also will keep until early spring..I held a few back on a windowsill a couple of years ago.
Now I need to check the other trees to see how they are faring!!
This afternoon's work was throwing glaze test bowls. I threw them off the hump for a change and was pleasantly pleased..I haven't used that technique for a very long time indeed!!
Then after a late lunch, the latest batch of cards needed finishing and packing.
A quick supper, and watching a programme about the River Derwent...while sewing!!
Nice haul!
ReplyDeleteI had to go and research throwing off the hump. Turns out to be what I had imagined. That's a lot of bowls - I'm eager to see your test glazes. Nice supply of apples - I have yet to find a local 'feral' tree that might oblige next autumn.
ReplyDeleteYour bowls are exquisite. Glad you escaped the worst of the storm.
ReplyDeleteYou are very fortunate to have fruit trees, There's nothing like fruit right off the tree.
ReplyDeleteAt least we are fortunate to have your thoughts shared with us. It is so good reading you!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Dom. Est ce que vous écrivez un blog aussi?
DeleteNon, je n'ai jamais écrit de blog. Mais je suis ravie de lire le votre. Merci
DeleteSo good to read your thoughts about your days and your harvest!
ReplyDeleteVery productive all round.
ReplyDeleteSo many apples!
Lovely apples indeed. Catching up after a few days - I know the melancholy of not being able to share with someone who would understand specific things.
ReplyDeleteNice test bowls. Don't forget to show us the results. Are you mixing or buying your glazes?

DeleteHit the wrong button!!
DeleteNeither!!...or rather using ones that I've been carting around since I left Wales...if I can find them! If not I'll make up some more
Will all those apples go for juice? That's quite a haul! I mailed your knives, today, BTW. :)
ReplyDeleteYes Steve, they aren't really quality enough for use in cooking, let alone eating fresh, although when ripened they do taste nice. So juice they will be.
DeleteThanks for the knives..did they say when the ETA might be?
Those apples look great and so many of them just waiting to be picked. Lucky you. A tree filled with fruit in Massachusetts, US would be attacked by deer and raccoons. All the fruit would be taken.
ReplyDeleteIf I need more , the rest of the tree is still loaded and I have an apple picker ..
DeleteThat's a great haul of apples. I am sure you have plenty of bottles for the juice. Even my little young orchard has a good number of apples this year - down to the good spring.
ReplyDeleteWell done with your bowls and cards and tidying and sewing . . .
Lovely bowls - how talented you are to do that so casually.
ReplyDeleteI am in France now where the local trees are full of early plums - jam me thinks!
I think my French friend may have plum trees...we will be busy next week!
