This morning we headed up the Whanganui River Road to Piperiki, 63 wiggly Kms up from SH4.
Pirate then started back by bike to see how far he would get.
The answer? In a hot headwind ride, when a lot of the downriver road goes up..35 km, and very well done.
We saw some local traffic (!) lots of horses, some sheep and a brown goat!! Lunch stop was at the Matahiwi gallery cafe, that we had visited on a ride in 2013. We found that that was just after the owner had opened!
We saw a worrying looking fire up on the top of the other side of the river, and apparently this has re-ignited after a week..not good.
Now we are back, the washing is dry, Pirate is showered and resting. Tomorrow we join in the fun of the Whanganui Vintage weekend!!

I hope they have got that fire out.
Congrats to your spouse on his ride...and thanks for the wonderful pics along the way. A beautiful terrain.
((o))
Good to see the old boy still out on the bike and why not in such a lovely place.
He did well with the bike ride in this heat, is there a fire ban down there too?
He did a lot better on his ride than I ever would have.
