The best laid plans..

 As ever, plans get changed! This is the only repotting done yesterday...the first one took well over a month to germinate..now there are three!!

 The second bed surround in the polytunnel got built, all bar tidying up two corners.

 It was a fiddle, having to work in situ from the first length which was holding the path in place...but fortunate as at the end the bed we had assumed was a regular rectangle was a little wider at the door end.

Almost ready to use...we just need some rainfall . The cold northerly winds are holding growth back as well, but despite everything the onions and garlic are growing steadily outside and the broad beans are flowering.
Not many beans set though, the cold winds are not helping the insects.
We must have had enough at the right time for the currants and gooseberries as the fruit has set on them.  Netting has started and I will finish today.... hopefully!!

time

Time is unreal now. Six days feels an age, yet no time atall.

Yesterday I planted out cabbage on my garden, and on Col's put the flowers that he had grown from seed, plus others I was given for him.

We had discussed a month ago what should go on the parsley bed, as it needed a rest.

Then I dug over a quarter of the polytunnel, ready for sowing carrots, and cleaned half of the paths. The paths were the job he let me do initially, saying himself how much better it looked when done.

Today it is raining, and this will give an opportunity for more seed sowing.

Col's funeral is on the Eighth of June, in St.John's church in the village, where he will be with family and friends.

Two weeks to get his garden looking perfect for him.

Let us hope that this is reducing all the bugs and slugs that reduced last year's crops....

Roll on Spring

A foggy day

Today I woke to an 'inversion fog'- visibility of less than 100 feet.
From the Mountain it looked like a river of fog, from the village, after a while you could see that the sun was 'up there' and not 'down here'!!

Today in the garden I prepared the bean and pea bed with some of last year's compost, and mulched the fruit bushes with some horse manure,nicely composted since the Autumn of last year.

In the kitchen I am sowing peas and beans.

"It's all grow" as one might say!

Now I am back to waiting for help to re-erect the greenhouse...now an urgent job.

The weather is holding well, more gardeners have emerged on the allotments to start digging.
I am glad that I use raised beds and never walk on them as my soil is ready and warming instead of claggy and still waiting.
Why make life hard for yourself and the plants?!
Although not freezing, the nights are still chilly, no outdoor sowings for a while yet.
The sun hides behind the mountain from us in the valley soon after 4pm. so it's off to walk home then.

Now I am waiting again-for a different person!
I am Freecycling, clearing out the clutter, making thinking and doing easier. Now I am waiting for someone to collect what I no longer need and they do need.
