Teeth!

 A busy in bits day today...rattling through the housework before going to town with Pirate. Today was Tooth Day! Our usual dentist had thought that this tooth should come out...next March..a large important molar....it was mended three years ago by a dentist in Whanganui who did a really good job..but for the past two years we think that it has been affecting his health..

This called for some hard decisions. Which meant jumping ship to a cycling friend who is a dentist. To get things done meant going private....one sick nerve and an abscess came out first..that put paid to the nagging long term earache....then a temporary filling to keep him going...and today the job was finished!   Two more nerves out, then the equivalent of Rawl plugs before the fixings to build the top of the tooth.  When you think about all the work £500+ doesn't sound too bad!   Thankfully the bike bits selling will take care of a fair chunk of that.

Lunch afterwards for me in our favourite bookshop then home via our favourite tree...which is no more..

It's one that I used for a print..I am glad that I have a record of it now.

Then home for a quiet afternoon walk around Hannahston and a relaxing evening.

An odd week

 A very odd week with a thing and everything getting in the way of doing something!!

Anyhow, Pirate is on antibiotics, as I thought he would be..he is not happy and impatient..and his appointment to start treatment proper isn't until the 23rd....I joined him in the tooth department and lost a crown...so I start mid December. At least mine doesn't hurt!!.

At last I have started on a small linocut to make this year's cards...I hope it will work...I am thinking on a different way of printing two colours....we will see. Still a bit of cutting to do.

We managed a short walk before lunch to collect another bag of apples. Half have been juiced and the juice has been filtered through a muslin before standing until tomorrow to clear further.

I am hoping that I have enough bottles!!

Sunday cyclo-cross outing

 After the storm...nothing blew away thankfully...we woke to a little snow on the ground.

What better than to go and watch a cyclo-cross, supporting a friend who was riding!

We went to Rouken Glen, beside Giffnock in Glasgow. This is the fifth time they have run this event, and the fourth time that they have had snow!!

There were three races and a total of three hundred riders...B race in which our friend (in the blue top) was racing and got 8th, the women's race and the A race.

I liked the alternative podium!

It seems to be the fashion to put jackets on dogs!! Ok if they are unwell or very old I suppose......

I think I would like to return in the summer!! There is a big garden centre there with a decent sized café, and the whole lot is on East Renfrewshire council ground.

If nothing else the garden centre wouldn't be overrun by Christmas tat and fir trees in plastic netting jackets!!.

Since the evening, Pirate's toothache has been seriously bothering him. I think that it is a tooth that has been grumbling for a long time and that has been pulling his health down a tad, as I would expect.  Naturally he doesn't want to lose it...who would....but it sounds like an abscess, so it should come out!  I think that is one anchor for a bridge which complicates matters and he is against getting false teeth.  

I think that they are not the end of the world, they are considerably cheaper than the alternative and won't be pulling his health down...but it is his decision. 

I am just looking forward to seeing the back of the bear with a sore head!!

cefn rhyswg walk

A trip to the dentist,this morning, to start sorting the "grimbly" tooth. It had stopped hurting while I was with my Man in the hospital, and the swelling subsided. The dentist drained it today and said that it should have been still hurting...we came to the conclusion that the Mind and Body prioritise matters sometimes.
I decided to try and save the tooth. The dentist could not advise me either way, I had to make the decision myself...and I was relieved to find that I chose the right one!
No spare appointments for the next step until October. That's what you get for going to a good, popular, dentist!
Back to a soup lunch, unsurprisingly, with a slightly numb mouth!!

Getting my head round work is still not easy. The Oily One is not happy and not sleeping well. I decided to go for a walk and managed to bring him too.

We walked up the old road to Cefn Rhyswg, up to below the old barn by Rhyswg Fawr farmhouse, then along just below Rhyswg Fawr farm fields.
It was showery so we decided not to head for the mountain, but to go across over the ridge.
Looking back towards my Man's Stables, where the newly shorn sheep fill the fields.....
and the fleece lies wasted on the ground. It costs £1.20 to shear a sheep and you're lucky if you get much more than that, despite the rise in value. Although it was half that last year.

Along the lane that traverses Cefn Rhyswg to the cattle grid where the lane bears to the left to go past the other side of the Rhyswg Fawr farm fields.
The footgate has been left open again, but the latch doesn't work because the gate post has been knocked and bent in the past years.

Gate closed with the usual piece of wood.
Then down the hill again to Abercarn.


We're both feeling better for the hour and a half walk.

The Carpenter has gone out for a sixty mile bike ride, that will do him good too.
To sleep you need to balance mental and physical exertions!

teeth and life

Well, tooth...has been making its presence felt all weekend.

Couldn't be Xrayed properly so I'm back on (different) antibiotics to hopefully kill the infection=reduce swelling=reduce pain.

Mountain Man isn't well either. Gone off eating, still doing too much.

Looking after him as much as he'll let me.

day of parts

Partly doing washing (and drying it on the line!) partly making lime with lemon cordial, Partly doing a bit of pricking out and potting up.
Partly pricing and packing pots for tomorrow.

A quiet day today, not scorchingly hot, but pleasant enough, and quite a few people allotmenting as it went cooler, before the midges came out!!

All day with my grumbly tooth, either just aware or hurting. In sympathy with The Man's back.
Both should start being sorted on Tuesday. Why do these things always get worse on weekends and holidays?!

teeth and life

I have my new crown! Also a couple of fillings....and instructions to cut down on my sugar consumption....I think he ought to know my diet before saying that. Cakes and biscuits are far and few between, sweets non-existent and chocolate rare.
I think it has more to do with fifteen months with at least three viral infections plus the food poisoning, AND how your body chemistry changes as you age.....

But I can't prove that.

I have been busy, but ending up feeling that I've achieved nothing. I've tidied and de-cluttered but it still looks a mess.
I've done the accounts as best I can and need to find galleries and/or shops to take my work. I know I'll get less as they take a percentage, but at least I wont be spending on fuel every week.
I've managed to start clearing the allotment shed ready for re-construction, but as the greenhouse has been waiting since last year, when will I get any progress on that?

At least I'm back to throwing today, shaving mugs and soap dishes as the rain ran down the workshop window.

subdued day

This afternoon I had to go to the dentist, so my mind was a little distracted this morning.

I couldn't settle to anything, so I went and dug the last potato patch.

I had the work for a new crown started, and also a filling-I've known for a while that *something* was wrong there...so I have a massive filling, and in three months possibly root canal and crown.(if they can). I haven't needed any work for ages- last year's food poisoning seems to have got me down, I've been fraying at the edges since then.

Now the Oily One and the Carpenter are hopefully finishing off the work needed on the car (apart from a new tyre) so that it can pass its test. I'm just feeling a bit bruised and tired.

A Rainy Day

A cold and rainy day, getting progressively wetter through the day.

I have been encouraged by the dental hygenist...and told off by the dentist. Who understood a little more when I pointed out that I'd had food poisoning in July. My health has been a bit down ever since-I just feel that I'm fraying at the edges a bit. Two teeth to mend and one to crown.

Then we started the Tour of Cardiff Scrapyards. On Boxing Day (St.Stephen's Festival in Welsh)
2009, eight cars in our lane had a wing mirror wrenched off. I lost the nearside mirror. Boxing Day 2010, only four ...and I lost the other one.
The Oily One came too, and £10 saw the purchase done. That is the easy bit- the door card has to be removed to get at the bottom two screws.....and getting it all back on is the worst part.

By then I was in need of sustenance and we were only two miles from Ikea....and had a very tasty Brie and Spinach Tart!!

Back home and time to get Teigar in her travel box. Cat "MoT" time-she gets a yearly once over, just like the car!! She needs to go on lighter food as she is getting on now, but otherwise she is fine...and vocal! Discussions were had with her whilst we drove....she isn't best keen on roundabouts, however easily you take them!
She has settled back fine and seems to have taken well to the change in food so far.

So no work today, just very busy. Back to the wheel tomorrow!
