Ayr Walk

 The day started cold and wet...and stayed that way!!

I had yet more paperwork to take to our solicitor...and more certificates...I bought a couple more copies of our marriage certificate, all these places demand proper original copies..they do eventually return but waiting would cause even more delays to sorting financial and legal matters. 

The solicitor's office was at lunch, so I went for a walk...

And a bit of history..

So building on our green spaces is nothing new...and here's an idea for some more walking or cycling..

We rode north from here up the coastal path as far as Ardrossan once..

I must do that again, and this time go over on the ferry!

The weather turned muggy mid afternoon...and now at six pm we have a thunderstorm..which should clear the air nicely .

We live in a village of about 4,000 inhabitants , a tenth the size of Ayr...it was a coalmining village in a rural area. The original village was mostly demolished and changed its name from Taiglum to Drongan.

The schemes began to be built in the 30s but the big push was in the 40s post war...building houses like ours with a twenty year lifespan..semi detached like ours but also maisonettes, so two up and two down in a block.

There are a few rows of half a dozen wee Butt and Ben's in a terrace,...front room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom... generally for retired singles or couples. Some privately built housing has been created since the 70s and 80s and nowadays the new schemes are privately built, so far by a local builder.

We are very fortunate to live right on the edge of the village as we are used to living outside villages. Our road is one of the older ones here, existing before any village was here.

Then Victorian villas, still as an individual home with gardens and stables

and more Georgian workers' cottages opposite

and the original village , bunting out for the village festival, road going down to the mill pond in the centre
