Knitting and hope

 Otherwise known as hedgehog wrangling....

I have started using the new shorter needles that I bought in Faversham last month.

Having an exceedingly grumbly tooth removed has slowed me down a bit...I am on rather strong antibiotics to deal with the bad infection that came on suddenly.

Here's hoping that they will deal with it. I don't like taking meds but needs must.

It is chilly wet and windy outside...and has been for a few days..with dashes of bright sunshine!  We do need the rain, but a bit more warmth would be welcome!!

Our wedding anniversary trip became a day out locally,  nice and relaxed as it should be.

Ten years together, four years married. Not bad with all we have been through.

Here's to many more!!

Samhain

Blessings be...

A new year, new beginnings, new plans.

Time to remember old things, past and missing friends.

Time to let go of the bad things ,time to grab new opportunities.

May your future be as you wish it.

Winter Solstice

Monday's sunset, at the end of a local 38 mile ride delivering cards to friends.

Then back to work on the drive....or as the Pirate was an aircraft engineer, a runway?!  We're pulling Paddy Overtheroad's leg that this is a relief runway for Prestwick, with his roof as the final lift-off boost.....

Most of the cards have been written and sent by the Pirate...my yearly card list is still packed from last year and I haven't found it!
All the shopping we need has been done and it is batten down the hatches with Storm Barbara on her way by Friday.

Funny, we remember last year escaping over the Minches to the Isle of Lewis just before a storm and squeezing in the return trip between storms at the beginning of 2016...miss going over there, but we have a longer journey to prepare for.

Today's good news? the Pirate had his six monthly phone call fromthe Oncology nurse a day early... tests ok, all clear and getting himself back again.
Relief.

The year turns again and it feels as if things could be improving for us...one plans and hopes....

pottery progress

The clay has arrived, two dozen bags of white stoneware, thanks to The Carpenter and his fiancee.   He happened to be working in Newcastle and saw he'd have a day off...so spent it driving over to here for lunch and back!

Some of the clay needs re-bagging, but it is all good.

Today we moved some bike stuff and some rubbish out of the workshop and filled the remaining space with my Leach kickwheel.
Next job is a small pole barn for the kiln and a front extension on the workshop, which is only ten foot square. It will be a bit smaller once it has been insulated..and there are plans for a small woodburning stove....

We're still living in hope that our rent wont go up too much on review.
You have to push on and do things that are needed...but whatever we do,if we have to move, we'll have to move them too.....

thinking and hoping

Thyme...or Time.

Anniversaries rushing in, making one sit and think.   It feels like yesterday, but also like ten years.
Yesterday a year ago, My Man chose to go into hospital.   At least it was a positive decision that he made himself.    It was funny peculiar weather then too.

I worked all day by myself in the workshop near Abergavenny, going in for breaks and cuppas!

I worked in silence apart from the quiet running of the kick wheel as I turned then handled mugs.   The blackbirds were shouting loudly outside, so I knew that the rain tapping on the roof was only showers, until mid-afternoon when they fell quiet..and the rain fell steadily.

I've mislaid...probably lost....my drawing book.....two and a half year's work.

Perhaps it is a sign of new beginnings, as there are some shoots of hope peeking through.
I've just opened a new drawing book......

New techniques are certainly a challenge.

I must "go with the flow" more and stop trying too hard in everything I do.
When you relax and get on with it life is much better.  It scares other people less too!!

The rain has eased off a little this morning, but everything is exceedingly wet and I can only just see the wooded slopes of Cefn Rhyswg from my window.

Time to drink the rest of my coffee then go out to my workshop.
There are jars that need turning and knobs and handles....perhaps a dragon or two...
I've had an idea for a one-person  teapot shape, not made one in years .
There is also a lantern shelter to be made from Crank clay....the idea is nearly there.

I can sit and work and think and hope....and smile.
