I've got another builders bag and a smaller bagful of laurel prunings ready to go to the cowp...booked for tomorrow..no slots today.
Apple foraging done near the beach on the rough ground between the beach and the coastal path..there are a few trees there, a combination of bird sown and someone throwing an apple core!
A little further West is where I usually pick elderberries..nothing! I asked a friend and apparently they were finished nearly a month ago ! I suppose the difference between there and home...where I've only just finished picking mine...is about 400 feet higher above sea level ..and ten more miles inland.
Then "food foraging" in asda...what they call their Whoopsies....400g Red Leicester at 90p?...I'll have two!!...packs of falafel at just over £1...four of them...and plenty left for others!! and a (full price) proper sourdough granary multiseed boule...
and home again...
No reading tonight...I am working through "A brief history of France" An introduction to the people history & culture by Cecil Jenkins.
It is well written...and fascinating.

Foraging was such a satisfying pasttime in English countryside too. Here not so productive - seafood is reasonably plentiful but less of fruit and berries. You did well at ASDA🤣
I like the sound of Asda's Whoopsies. Nothing like that here!
We can’t forage for food like you do.
Councils spray blackberries, so now there’s none.
No fruit trees, they don’t survive unless someone looks after them
As for the Aussie bush. I don’t see much at all. Although the aboriginals see lots of food.
I guess I’ll keep foraging in my garden and supermarket
((o))
France and French culture have certainly had a long and chequered history!
Probably like NZ, blackberries are one of the Dirty Dozen and have crossed with something to become rather fierce...as has gorse
It only shows that their ordering system has got things wrong!! Especially when there are large numbers of any item
We did find a couple of quince trees in Blenheim!...there was one on rough ground by Mitre 10....
We always try to buy stuff that isn't quite perfect, alot of the time there's not a lot wrong with it, have a nice weekend.
