On the prom

 Another delayed walk...but we got to promenade on the promenade!

Busy cleaning the beach after the winter storms, ready for the tourists 

People are mucky....

And the sea throws everything over the green stretch between the houses and the prom as well!

Oystercatchers...no oysters here 

The rain missed us....just!

It was a trifle windy..so we walked against the wind to start with, to get a tailwind back to the car!

As I write the wind has risen further and it is still raining....but there is hope for a walk tomorrow morning.

Afternoon in Aberystwyth

A nice sunny start after parking by the prom.

Then a pootle around the town.

Would you believe that t his used to be the Milk Bar?!

And this was the post office, a beautiful building closed for a while and now it holds local businesses and ventures.

No starlings to fly their murmuration at this time of day.

Fifty five years ago I spent a couple of hours here on the beach..and it was all pebbles at the top, no sand.

I think something more solid than salt has been on the breeze!!

Yes, someone sleeps there every night...at least he has a roof over his head, unlike some.

And so to bed....it's nine o'clock now, the rain has swept in again, and the wood in the stove is making the occasional crackling sound.

The car is mostly packed as we have to leave by ten a.m. , and hope to see daughter again in the morning.

 I am getting a bit of flare, it was so bright...and I am learning to use the phone still!!

It looks like Storm Babet will not affect us too badly, as we are on the West of Scotland...but we are returning a day later than planned as the ferry was fully booked!

Not that an extra day here is a hardship...

Over the sea

 Looking towards Arran and the Heads of Ayr from Prestwick promenade...Monday afternoon, time out for a gelato and a walk on the prom.

Moved on..

 We have now had a night at Hanmer Springs..nearly twice as much as we paid at Picton!! Hopefully our last night of paying to stay anywhere!

I haven't been able to write for a couple of days... WiFi problems...the camp in Greymouth had good signal but no "sign in" page...so no blogging...at least I had farcebook, messaging and online map! Quite funny really with part working really well and the other saying I had no signal!!

Greymouth was peaceful...with the background rumble of the surf...and occasional small airplane as the camp is at the end of the runway.

I will have to do a couple of separate posts about different places...more driving today, back to Christchurch 

Hilltop and beach

 

I have ridden up this hill in the past...but today we parked at Brunswick and rode out on one No Exit road...and back...and to the top of the hill...and back!! 

Easy rides are the rule!!

Australian gum trees...huge ones!!

Then to the beach at Mowhanau...also called Kai Iwi beach, and this is where the Kai Iwi stream meets the black volcanic sand and the sea

I wonder how that black sand would behave in a glaze????
