Really windy!

A quiet day today, apart from the wind!
Washing done and pegged out we headed for Whanganui...all of 5km!...looked for which hill the Hillclimb race will be in the games..I'm not keen on either of the possibilities!!
On to Taupo Quay..and of course most things are closed as it is a public holiday.  Savoury crepes from a food cart was a good find, and we watched the electric tram giving rides
Mooching on past beautiful old buildings

And seeing the NZ national flower, the Pohutukawa across the river
It shines out beautifully with those red flowers.
We met and made new friends, a Belgian couple who have been here for ten years or more..we talked and talked in the park...then went and talked more in the Rutland Arms.. meeting one of our best friends here on the way in, as he was leaving!

It played washing machine weather..rain then sun and wind..the washing was dry and sweet. The wind is still blustery and high so we have moved the campercar to a different spot on the campsite....away from the trees....
The ducks don't seem to mind.....

Lovely old buildings. I'll look up the flower! Your life sure has lots of vehicles in it!

This has been a great vintage weekend Barb...I'm sad we missed a lot of it, but we couldn't get an earlier ferry. 350 old cars lorries and buses this year!
So many survive here as they don't spread salt on the roads in Winter

That seems to be a beautiful town. Sorry about the infernal wind. It's been blowing cold here today too.

I didn't know Whanganui had old buildings like that, I have a cousin that lives there.

Amy you must visit here..a local man is trying to buy as many as possible to restore them. There is a threat that developers are going to demolish the old railway station on Taupo Quay and build high-rise...so out of place and not the safest place to build anyway!
