Stranraer and Cycling

Yesterday we called in on friends in the Stinchar Valley on the way to Stranraer.

Great to catch up, discuss gardening, badger damage to the edge of the lawn...there is a sett over the burn by their garden...and passing on some seedlings.

Then Stranraer for the latest of the Tour Series, a series of street racing cycling criteriums on courses between 1 and 1.5km. Top class teams, women then men, and very fortunate to only have light rain before and after the racing.

We caught up with a few friends as well and saw some we know racing.

A big plus for the evening.. finding a café on the course. The Fig and Olive...run by Australians from Melbourne and Bundaberg, of Scottish descent..whi have been in Scotland for 25 years.

The cabinet food was great, healthy and tasty, the cake selection just perfect.. memories of our favourite café in Whanganui!! And without asking, a bottle of water and glasses came to the table first!! On top of that, the owner knew of Pirate's best friends in Noosa north of Brisbane.

At a cycling event I don't just take photos of the racers...it's everything around it which is fascinating.

It doesn't look all that warm and the Cavalier Spaniel or whoever he is looks fed up and ready for home, Also the cafe looks very inviting. These eventsare wonderful on alovely day but not so in chilly or dampweath - but as you don't complaiabout the weather it must have been bearable.

So neat that your friends are from all over, in the cycling world! Great photos of interesting designs!

I'm liking the sculpture, that's something different. There's not many places that put down cold water on the table when you eat there so that's a good thing.

Interesting to read of things other people do that I know nothing about. Such as cycle racing.

Yes, everything around is as interesting as the race.

Amy it is the Kiwi and Oz influence!! In NZ we see water and glasses for you to help yourself..and people do. It isn't so common here. But thankfully is growing.

Stranraer is struggling..if you look at the shot of the harbour you see the ferries to Ireland on the far side of the bay.
Losing that..and the railway from Carlisle now stopping at Dumfries..
We will have to go back and show another side of the town. They are trying. But everywhere is having it hard now
