Afternoon walk..with cat..and archaeology

Ok....it is up to its tricks again! Pictures in reverse order!!

A small farm with a café, with an assortment of animals and birds..pigs, horses and donkeys as well as these.

Storm damaged beech tree
The height from the feeder outlet to the top of the pond
Gate to try and keep people out of the feeder, which fed water to the canal at Crumlin

Overflow feeder, rough bed and zigzags to slow the flow

Top of the overflow feeder

Soggy doggy! Frank is a strong swimmer

Cut down a row of ancient oaks in a boundary....fine ½ million £.  Sell the land...£3 million. Not much disincentive
Canada geese. There have been few birds on Penyfan Pond lately..hardly any ducks, no cormorants very few geese and even not one gull in sight.
Dog..ball..

Walking, running or riding around the pond, yes....but standing there hip depth for hours???

Old Gelli Farm...much wrangling was had over this as the owner didn't leave a will and expected his word to be followed....many years passed and a few years ago the wriggly tin roof had a lightning strike causing a fire....

And the cat came too....

That's a really fine walk. Shame about the old farmhouse. I love the stone wall capping, and agree with you about the value of things like ancient oaks vs development. There has to be a more biting form of reparation - like yes the land can be sold but 25 % of it has to be planted in oak trees and become a protected reserve with public access.

They didn't affect the land development atall..a solar farm..

What a nice ramble -- lots to see and do.

Looks like a really nice walk, I'm sure the dog especially had fun. I like the idea of a solar farm, shame that solar panels are so expensive here.

A beauty area. A wonderful place to have a walk

It looks like great weather for a walk and the water views, forest, farm animals, ducks and birds add to the interest.

It really irritates me to hear of farmland being covered in solar panels - we need the food at least as much as the electricity, and the solar panels can go on roofs etc where they are less damaging to the environment.

A shame about the old house, and the land. Otherwise, a fine post and walk!

So sad that a building that could (and should) have been saved has been left to ruin.

What a great walk though. Thanks for bringing us along!

Will when set up properly, sheep can happily graze beneath solar panels..(giving a dual income to the land.).which saves cutting the grass...also the direction of the sunlight changes during the day, so the panels do not shade the grass excessively, in fact the shelter is a help in summer.

That's a shame about the oaks. There should be a requirement to replant somewhere, but of course it would take centuries for them to get to that size.
