The thing that did jump out

 And say "buy me"..... yesterday....

A push mower from the 1930s...it needs rubbing down and a new coat of paint...and one wooden handle needs some glue to fix a crack ...but it cuts very nicely....and surprisingly only cost me £20!!!

With a grass catcher and in good condition..ie a paint job...it would be worth a LOT more....but I'll be using it, not selling it!!

Until I get the catcher, my spring tine rake will have to suffice...I use the grass clippings to mulch the vege beds.

Late in the afternoon I took a walk round the fields and foraged some of my favourite local apples....

Some for juice, some for other uses, some to store...and plenty more where they came from!

It is certainly a Mast Year... everything is abundant.

I didn't get too many tomatoes because I planted them too late..but those I have are beautiful

Not much done today....more housework, cutting cardboard boxes up to make packing to go with (hopefully) sold prints...and looking for a block I did a couple of years ago, found the lino that I knew I had.. somewhere!! So I hadn't really needed to buy more on my day out.... but it will still all get used.

Trimming back the tomatoes in the greenhouse to reveal all that is left to ripen, and picking a few more. Clearing the patch to plant the garlic. More gardening tomorrow, all being well.

A great find. You will save on petrol and make that money back in a day.

That mower is a beautiful machine! Say, what do you do with the Apple juice you press – – drink a glass of it cold, or heated up the cinnamon, cook with it, or what?

Are these apple trees on old estates?

Great mower. Generous sized roller. Is that what drives the blades or do they drive off the wheels?

I had some beef tomatoes like yours, so many we have been eating them on toast and made sauce with them too. Interested to know how you will juice the apples. The lawnmower is beautiful, I would rather have a good solid old antique like that than a hover mower any day - but it will be heavy to push I think! Betty

That was a good buy. Sometimes the old things really ARE the best and do the job so efficiently without plastic bits to break! Another good haul of apples too, and enough tomatoes to more than keep you going.

My word. That lawnmower looks interesting. Not too hard to push?

Oh I love that mower! Lucky you! My husband thought I was mad when I kept my dad’s old Qualcast mower, propped against a tree! But it was a reminder of how he toiled away, mowing the lawns and never complaining. We have it so easy nowadays!

Thank you for visiting my blog! Sal

I've never thought of heating it....but otherwise, yes and yes!

No, just in a farmers hedge...another is in the corner of our nature reserve, an ex open cast coalmine site, one is by the fence of the telephone exchange..other down by the sea in the dunes....all probably from apple cores ....

Oh yes and one...and plums too...are from an old garden of a derelict cottage..on the same farmer's land. He gets preserves that I make with the fruit from his hedges..and insists on giving me eggs!

Power is all from whoever pushes the mower

gz said...

It isn't light...but runs well and pushing is easy..not a fight like the newer light one I have!

gz said...

No, easier than the light modern one

You'd be surprised how much enthusiasts will pay for an old mower..even one needing tlc...I was very fortunate

Maybe that’s a Midwestern US thing—hot apple cider (juice), sometimes w spices is a common drink in this season

I love that mower. I would have snapped it up in a heart beat!

What a great find with your mower. We have one in the garage that needs cleaning and sharpening but I think next spring it is coming to the lake where we really need one. Your tomatoes are gorgeous and great fun having apples so close! Happy week (and thanks for stopping by!)

It sounds like a good idea on an icy day

The mower was a lucky find. I've never seen one like it. What is the roller behind the blades used for? Will you be able to do all the repair and restoration? Pushing it will be great exercise.
All your apples and tomatoes look excellent. Nice harvest.

It doesn't look to need any repairs apart from one handle being cracked. I think that it hasn't been left outside...and it still cuts well.
I suppose the rollers on the back help keep a lawn flat and even...and give you better "stripes" !

And the apples, lovely! Your tomatoes look great too.
