NZMG2017

The week of the Masters Games proceeds ... over 50 different sports and competitors into their 90s..only 85 years old in the cycling.
I won my road time trial group and the Pirate was 6th in his. On the velodrome I won all my events and he got two 3rds. He was brave and entered the 44km road race, four laps with a tricky descent followed swiftly by a sharp and nasty hill. He missed the podium with a 4th place but rode well on a hot and windy day. We've had that weather for all the cycling, with a couple of wet days.

We had a walk around the River City today and noticed that the lampposts were made in Scotland...in Kilmarnock, not far from Drongan!!

Cycling must be nice in your area. Here on Georgia roads it is too dangerous as cars are not used to share the road. I still have my bicycle in the garage but now can’t use it because of my bad knees (maybe after my knee operation I shall.) But I spend 3 weeks each year glued to my television to watch le Tour de France live in July!

Vagabond cycling in NZ can be a problem, cycle lanes help where they are, but people do park in them. On the main roads the section to the left of the solid white line for us is intermittent and unpredictable

Hope you might manage to meet up with Pohangina Pete if you're in NZ for another couple of weeks.

Well done! I keep hoping that when the weather cheers up, I will be able to go on a proper cycle trip again. I don't think the 5 mile return trip into central London really counts!

Congratulations to you and the Pirate on your great cycling successes! It is most impressive. Sounds like you are having a very busy, but enjoyable, time in NZ. Sorry that we are so far South and travel is rather expensive, as it would have been nice to have met up with you whilst you are in this part of the world.
Mmmm, I found cycling was getting a bit scary due to the dubious nature of the road edges on the main roads and the increasing number of huge and heavy vehicles.. and that was quite a few years ago! The Central Otago Rail Trail is proving very popular for cyclists in the South Island who want to explore that part of NZ without the company of cars and trucks!
