Long Acre

Have a look on goggle maps or earth, for Long Acre, Okoia, NZ...it is a beautiful narrow valley, about 12 km long from the beginning of Long Acre Road..

Yesterday we had a gentle potter on the bikes, and I reached to the top of the first kick up of the road..about 8km or so.

Today we went with Team Arrow, our group of friends here. One on a road bike, two on e-mountain bikes and our coach on his motorbike as an outrider behind us for safety.

I managed 10km this time, riding all but about 100m...and Pirate got to the top! That is by the farm gate of a farm called Mount Zion.

It is very hot today and quite humid...so feet up now until it cools a little!!

Then we will help here at the Stayplace with a little light weeding.

There are native trees in amongst the Radiata Pine..tree ferns, kawakawa are the most obvious. That is second growth Bush in amongst the pines. On the other side of the road where it was being clear felled a couple of years ago, it has been replanted with Radiata Pine...not native, but it grows straight and there is a market for the crop.

And today's numberplate....

Looks beautiful, despite the non-native trees. Those tree ferns look just like ours! (Which was supposedly sustainably harvested in Australia.)

We have lodgepole pines which are grown for the same reason as those non-native trees. Did you both take your bikes with you, or borrow some once you got there. I'm quite impressed with the way the two of you keep on going.

Debby they grow lodgepole pines in Britain too..and Sitka spruce..
We brought a track bike down ten years ago, Pirate had been doing that when he started over twenty years ago...but since we have made friends here, we borrow bikes.
Keeping going?..well, I just think of the alternative!!
