Glasgow..week #4

A wet and windy day, but fortunately only when I was in a bus or in a classroom!

I'm aiming to have a different route each week.

This is the Hindu cultural centre..using an old building beautifully...and next to.it a glass and concrete box....l

Glasgow is most definitely built on hills!

to the right of the spire in the distance, looking across over Finnieston, you can see the last big crane left ( no longer working)

Backs

and fronts of Park Circus
and the park in the middle

In the Goethe institute/Alliance Française...I go up those stairs to the second floor

a mural of things French

and the view from our classroom window

newer flats across the back lane.

I didn't wander much after the lesson..it was harder work today! More brainwork.

One of our classmates was there who'd been to London sorting his childrens' passports.

He is a Ukranian, already speaks seven languages. He has been given asylum...but is learning French properly so that he can emigrate to Canada.  You get the feeling that his and his wifes abilities and qualifications are going to be  accepted there....

A smooth journey home, apart from making my way through a very crowded city centre to the bus. five minutes wait there...a snooze on the way to Ayr, five minutes then the bus to here.

Then just metaphorically crash!!

I have had supper...soup, bread, cheese...then fruit and yoghurt...but nothing else really active for the past six hours!

All that brainwork...and peopling!!

I love that second photo - so much to imagine in it. Park Circus is grand - Hayling Island has its own grand curving terrace of town houses (the Crescent) evidencing some triumph of aspiration over reality... now more or less derelict and so out of place in our former south coast home. That mural is interesting. I pored over it spotting things I could name.

Fresca here.
What an adventure! I’d crash long and hard after all that—but, what fun! I love seeing the sights through your eyes—thanks! 🥰

So sad that people assign a label (immigrant) and cannot see through to the people behind that label.

You have a very different type of architecture there. Here we build cheap and tear it down often.

It sounds like a tiring day, but in a good way. It's interesting to see your photos of Glasgow. I've never been there, so this gives me some sense of what it's like.

yes..the classmate to the other side of me is Egyptian, born in Saudi, son of a consultant surgeon here. First languages equally Arabic and English.
He is learning French with tbe view to get a job in Switzerland

it is what they are doing here now...in places on a grand scale. Also building houses ("little boxes", Pete Seeger comes to mind) but four and five bedrooms ..and even the two and three bedroomed ones are out of the reach of locals

Glascow is an interesting mix of architecture. Park Circus from the front is so different from the back.
The students in your French class sound like an interesting group of people. Ability to speak 7 languages and now learning French is impressive.

...and built it with stone, it was meant to last!

Do I see hints of Roman architecture there? Glasgow looks like a very historical city.

Much Roman and Greek inspired "Classical" style
