Surreal

Pirate commented that it is like a dream that you will awake from..all this doesn't seem real.

Meanwhile we are riding our bikes on our turbo trainers for half an hour in the morning, then gardening for fresh air.
Walking practice will be up and down stairs for ten minutes...
Pirate is doing exercises to build up his shoulder muscles and arms after crashes in 2007 and 2009...the damage wasn't properly mended then. Its possible one shoulder could be reconstructed at last...

So we are keeping busy and healthy.
Pirate "rode shotgun" when I went shopping this afternoon...and stayed in the car...if I had gone alone, you can bet that the car would misbehave!!
Shopping was fine, I got practically all we needed..but then we don't buy ready made.
The loo roll , potato and flour shelves were empty. ..so I didn't get flour.
However I have been brought up to keep a good storecupboard.
When the children were young we lived on a smallholding and were members of a food co-op, shopping every two months for staples and once a week for the fresh goods that we didn't grow ourselves. You learnt quickly to manage stores and have a backup especially in Winter when the delivery could be disrupted by snow and ice.
Who knows when this will be over...
It is the end of the world as we know it..we must respect the earth from now on and not abuse our resources with impunity.

We need a kinder society but will we get one?

When the panic buying in some places in the USA has been guns?

When so many people already have nothing..and many more will be without jobs and income

It is the Elephant in the Room..not just the virus, but how we are treating the planet we live on.

Well said.

These sorts of events tend to have unpredictable and unintentional outcomes. The dice are rolling in the air, and when the gods play dice, they cheat.

People will emerge to a different world. Many will be literally rebuilding. Most will have no idea how.

i don't know if we will ever get a kinder society to be honest, it's strange to see people being so out there with their selfishness.

Yes, it is all very scary.

How right you are, gz ... I commented to R last night just how weird it all feels. It had been a chaotic week (maybe more on that to come in a blog post - Sandy is 'poking' me to get back blogging :>)) ... then last night I had a moment when it all really hit home. We are 'self isolating' here in as best we can ... and 'safe distancing' when we are in the vicinity of others. Stay safe ... b ... xx

Thanks for posting about this.

I totally agree with Pirate that this feels surreal, and with you that the elephant in the room is US!

I hope we can learn some lessons that carry on, but we humans are a short-sighted bunch and I expect it will mostly go back to business as usual...

Still, we can do what we can do!
And hopefully that means we can inspire and help others who want to change, too.

I do keep dreaming there is another quake. I check the list in the morning, and sometimes there was a tiny aftershock, so maybe? Probably not.

So true gz. Its such a shame so many people around us are still not seeing the seriousness of it - did you see the news all these tourists think its a holiday and going to Snowdonia, Gwynedd? Its so shocking how inward some people think. I agree with Fresca 'that we humans are a short-sighted bunch and many will expect it will mostly go back to business as usual'. Anyway, like you I have been brought up to keep a well stocked store cupboard. Doing a big shop every two months for staples and once a week for staples like fresh fruit and veg. Take care.

Several people have remarked that this virus slow-down is a way of giving the planet a rest. Which is an interesting idea.

We still have no loo roll in the stores. It's the darndest thing.
