Saturday

Late up...there was a full house at the Stayplace, many having been to a gathering at Ratana...and past midnight the communal kitchen was full of people quietly chatting, and guitars being played softly and people singing gently...it was a beautiful soundscape to hear.

Unfortunately I hadn't muted my phone, so heard messages and media post notifications about storm Eowyn....the good news seems to be that family are safe and nothing untoward has happened to my garden.

No early morning ride! Just getting my things tidy and relaxing. It got seriously hot by lunchtime... officially 31⁰...

I rode over to the velodrome to meet friends, and it was beginning to cool mid-afternoon.

We were expecting more on the track, with the Masters Games next week, but just two riders turned up.

A little motor paced training for both riders was in order, until the raindrops started...with a banked wood track that means stop!

It was near the end of the session planned thankfully.

Then a ride back..I took a longer route both ways to make it worthwhile..but not very long!

And a catch-up with drawing..

Good news on your family and garden. From some of the photos being published it looks terrible

I am glad to hear that your home and family came through the storm safely. The photos I have seen show a great deal of damage.
There must be velodromes in the US but I have never heard of them before your posts.

31 C is hard to get used to.

Like everywhere many are neglected....but you can search for USA velodromes and a list will come up of present and past tracks

Ominous looking clouds!

Banked tracks are still reasonably common down here (not all still in use, but Tinwald Cycling Club is very active). Not many wooden ones left I would have thought.

I think that Cooks' Gardens in Whanganui is the only outdoor wooden track..
There are quite a few grass tracks, some banked, all used for athletics now...others are concrete or tarmac surface.
The other wooden tracks in Cambridge and Invercargill are indoors

I wondered about your home. Glad all is well. I read another storm is headed in.

I had to look it up: 31º is 88ºF---that is plenty hot!
Love the purple flowers on the drive--and lovely sketch-- aren't ginkos beautiful?
But stinky fruit!
