party!!

We certainly had a Kiwi Christmas to remember...present opening ceremonies, breakfast on the barbie with champagne,  party lunch in a farm garage and and even bigger party supper in a double garage.   What else are they for!!

We learnt a new game....Secret Santa with a difference....

everyone buys a present for less than $10 ( £5 at the moment)...and wraps it.   After supper these  go on the table, and names are drawn .    As you choose yours, you draw the next name. Then you have to unwrap it in front of everyone......generally....

Then you can "steal" another present you'd prefer by exchanging it for the one you picked off the table...wrapped or unwrapped.....

This goes on until all presents are unwrapped, and exchanges can be made, if the one who is losing their choice agrees.

You can imagine the choice of presents....men's hair dye....garden gnomes.....a pink toolbox (much coveted!!)...chocolates....wine....plastic grass skirts.....a small red plastic picnic table which was really a condiments set....the star of the night, and much "stolen"!!

Did that in school once, I think it was called a Yankee Exchange. I got a magnetic pocket chess set, eventually.

I have played a similar version. In New England we call it a Yankee Swap.

Great game, isn't it. The most coveted at one of ours: a calf weaner.
