we're cooking on gas!

Today, after The Pirate had had his teeth X-rayed and we'd had a hot chocolate to celebrate, we returned home to do more tidying and pickling...

We have found a way of making preserves on the electric stove...
not as good as a real gas stove..and long slow cooking does use up the canisters quite quickly....but I can now actually BOIL something...and today's lime marmalade needed 221 degrees F to get a set....
Mango Chutney followed and Beetroot with Purple Carrot winterspice chutney is in the pan waiting for more heat....

We've sold the crosstrainer..useful, but it took up a huge amount of space that we don't have spare. Delivered that this evening, and having had to split the 'arms' and control panel from the rest to get it in the car, found it quite a game to get it back together, especially when a bolt dropped inside where it shouldn't!
there was also a spring washer that sprung away....

We're both feeling tired, but the weather on top of everything doesn't help.
Hopefully when the house gets a little tidier after some more sorting we'll feel better too!

Well done with shifting the cross trainer - they do take an extraordinary amount of space. Your preserving sounds amazing and delicious :)

Yum!!!! I have never tried beets in chutney - you have me thinking now.

I bought a jam pot like that recently (it was on special) but didn't pay attention to the size - it arrived and it is wayyyy too big for our use. I'll be sending it back - hope I can find a good deal for a smaller sized one.

Carol, you can get a smaller maslin pan..specifically for jam making with the sloping out sides because as jam boils it gives you more time to deal with it! I'm disappointed as nowadays you don't get them with a lid

Hey G: This big one (two gallons!) does come with a lid. I wish I could justify keeping it as it was quite inexpensive. But given that there is only two of us, and I usually make small batches, AND we have no place to store such a monstrosity... :)

We seem to be commenting unfavorable on the weather on both sides of the ocean.

Glad you found a work around for the electric stove. It must be frustrating to have an inadequate cook surface.
