Cat it is half an hour's drive to the ferry in Picton, and even then it is three and a half hours over...a long while travelling up the Sound ( like a fjord) then across to the entrance to the bay where Wellington is ( and the reefs that the Wahine foundered on in 1968) then almost another half an hour to docking.
