Last night the new year stormed in with a gale..and carried on through the day!
The usual barrage of fireworks was one brief burst from one person.... thankfully.
By late morning it was still windy but warmer.. unseasonably so.
We didn't think it safe for a bike ride, and the alternative was an hour's walk around our end of the village then out past one old mill site, past the stud fields...empty of horses today... and back past another derelict mill.
Coming up from the last mill I walked on the road and Pirate walked along the field side of the hedge, collecting a carrier bag of litter that had been thrown over the hedge. There is a lot less than there used to be, thankfully, but some seem to resent the fact that some of us in the village do litter pick.
Happy New Year to you all. Hoping for a kinder, thoughtful, constructive one

A very happy new year to you both.
Happy New Year. At least here people are always appreciative of us picking up litter. I can't understand why people would resent it.
Like Susan, I was confused by that as well.
Your closing sentence? From your lips to God's ears. A friend posted "May 2022 be better." I hope WE are better, all of us. Every single one of us. That would certain make 2022 a better year. It would also make the world a better place.
Good for you for picking up the litter! Litterbugs drive me crazy. (And of course we see so much of it here in the city -- I guess people just figure the council will get it, but the councils can't afford as many street sweepers these days!)
After an unexpectedly difficultly December - as much logistical as anything - I'm finally catching up on some of my favourite blogs to wish their authors a happy new year and say thanks for reading and commenting on mine. I hope next year brings us better times and plenty of words (and pictures) to inspire and entertain. Some good pots and prints too!
Best wishes
Mark
