Sunday 5 January

You arrive just before lunchtime...first stop coffee!

It was good to meet a friend who was a student lodger in my parents house in the 60s...whom I eventually met up with again in 2017 when Pirate and me rode the World Masters Games in NZ !!

Only him, as his wife was at a bird sanctuary but it was a chance to catch up again, and have a walk to a Sculpture park nearby..They hadn't been out to it either as living in Titirangi you don't just pop into the area around the airport for fun!! But five minutes or so from the Domestic Terminal is a Sculpture Park...a small lake, trees, birds and grassy spaces. Just beautiful.

A picnic lunch by the lake then walk to the terminal..the international one has changed and expanded greatly..and the domestic one is due for work to bring it nearer..but it is not a bad walk, following the green painted line on the ground..a brilliant Idea!

Interesting carpet design...

Then an hour's flight on AirChatham's Saab340...inflight water, tea or coffee, a Tim Tam and a sweet..just right.

Very glad that you arrived safely - the wording at the very beginning got me - his wife was at a bird sanctuary? I know that slang for women can be birds, but isn't that taking it a step too far NZ?

How nice to visit with an old friend! That Sculpture Garden is both lovely and intriguing.

I hadn't heard of the Auckland Airport Sculpture Park mind you, it is many years since we were last in Auckland. Welcome back to New Zealand.

Those 'pinball bumpers' made me laugh. Do they push tired tourists along the path if they start to lag?

Is it hard to believe you have really arrived, after all the prep? And what a great way to start your visit, connecting with a friend and then enjoying the picnic and sculpture park. Just delightful!

Interesting artworks! That sculpture garden wasn't even open when I visited NZ in 2007. The world does move on, I suppose. :)
