Down South

We had lunch in Port Chalmers, the freight and cruise harbour for for Dunedin. Another Cosmic Chuckle..met Tina..

At the Crafty Banker where she sells beautiful things..and her own work...and she is also a potter and printmaker. Born in Griffith's town in Wales, now definitely a Kiwi!

 Then on to Invercargill...

And the Zookeepers Cafe...hq of the Tour of the Southland race..

Despite being Saturday evening it is very quiet as most places have shut for the holidays.

The Crafty Banker appears to be located in an old but regal bank building. And I love the heffalump (elephant) outside the Zookeeper's Cafe.

That church seems a bit incongruous! -was it brought over as a flat pack, I wonder? It reminds me of this poem by Gunther Grass, even though it's not entirely apposite.

The Sea Battle

An American aircraft carrier
and a Gothic cathedral
simultaneously sank each other
in the middle of the Pacific.
To the last
the young played on the organ.
Now aeroplanes and angels hang in the air
and have nowhere to land.

I've never been to port chalmers but it looks from your photos to be an old town.
