Sunday outing to Irvine

Sunday morning wasn't very promising to start with!

However just after 10am it was fit to drive in, with care...and after 7 miles we left the fog!

By the time we arrived Irvine to watch the Harriers v Cyclists annual race it was cold, breezy and cloudy....

Cyclists won this year (the one in orange lost the sprint!)

Most of the runners didn't seem to make any sartorial concessions to the weather!

Then we had a walk on the beach and back behind the dunes.

Behind you!!! A brick dragon!

Rabbit diggings..and badger diggings!

We drove back most if the way home, and Pirate rode the last ten miles...

The mist was still lying in the Ayr River valley.. I took a photo just where you start going down into the valley at Stair..up the hill on the other side of the River you were back in bright sunshine!!

I arrived home and had enough time to make soup before he arrived...just!

Sounds like a busy but enjoyable day.

Funny how the mist settles in lower areas. It was VERY misty at the beginning, wasn't it?! Love the brick dragon!

You had quite the adventure, though those pictures made me feel cold. How nice though you have such great outdoor spaces to get out and about and exercise.

I love that tree with the vine stumps all twisted around. Is the tree dead, did you notice?

I live about 10 minutes away from a town called Irvine. General Irvine was awarded the land for his service to George Washington during the revolutionary war. The foundations of the house still stand, the old ice house, a gate house, and the stone church, (built by a Scotsman, Robert Shortt, emigrated from Lockerbie) The Irvines themselves originated from Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.

I'm always fascinated to find links between your history and ours and wonder if your Irvine is linked to ours.

Merry Christmas to you and the Pirate!
