Oops...

I found out this morning what the problem was in Manchester....the very very small print says that when you book on someone's behalf, despite the company having all that person's details...you are responsible if they break the no smoking rule and the room has to be deep cleaned.

£150 later....

What I should have done was to get her to book the room with her email on my tablet...which would have been possible.....

Never mind, one lesson learnt.

Drat. I would write to Travelodge and explain how you so kindly paid with your card for those people who only had cash. It's certainly worth a try GZ.

That's awful! So sorry you're out all that money for other's infraction of the rules.

Dave, no...it's my fault for not reading the small small print closely enough..and there is no way around it.
You can understand why Travelodge, Premier Inn et al don't want cash hanging about their reception at any time. However forcing everyone to also book online as well compounds the problem.

Yikes. How can someone live with the knowledge that they screwed someone so completely? I am sorry.

Wow, that is a lot of money. Apart from that it looked like a good trip.

There must be some way to retrieve your pounds. Oh, well, as you say, lesson learned.

Oh no! I had a feeling putting someone else's room on your card might come back to bite you, but I didn't imagine it would happen in THAT way. I bet they do this all the time, knowing someone else will be stuck with the cleaning fees.

Susan, it is expensive here..the rate changes from day to day.
Our cheapest night there was NZ$56...the most expensive we paid that week was NZ $240 . We went there a day later than planned to avoid paying nz$300 for one night..ie what we had to pay for cleaning their room!
Over our stay it averaged at nz$150 a night

Just for a bed, tv and a bathroom .
When I think how little we paid for a self-contained comfortable Top10 cabin during our last visit....

I think I'd also be on the side of trying to retrieve the money. I know this kind of thing can eat more time than it is worth, but £150 is not to be sneezed at.
