Getting help.

Pirate is now in a palliative care assessment bed in a village ten miles from here...much happier as it doesn't feel like hospital.

Hopefully they can rehydrate him and get meds into him....then we will see.

Probably two weeks there.

Once there he had charmed the staff...and he hasn't lost his sense of humour!

A couple of friends who are also cyclists have rallied round to help us both.

Hopefully I can sleep tonight... shouldn't be too difficult as I am tired!!

..tell Pirate, when you lose your sense of humor, you've lost everything!

I do hope they can get things sorted for Pirate and that you can get a couple of weeks' good night's sleep. Hugs from NZ

Aw… good move, I hope that will be restorative!

A friend’s father went into hospice last winter, expecting to die—
but the care, comfort, and *fluids* perked him up and he came home again, fine for the foreseeable future!
(though still living with a terminal disease).

Best wishes to your tired old cyclist!

Sounds good all around...pirate being given almost constant care (which you probably are a bit tired of doing) and you're getting a good night's sleep. And hope you can visit him often. I do hope these changes will provide a bit of healing time for him.

Getting this kind of support is very helpful. If Pirate is "happier" here that is all that truly matters. I hope you can rest easy knowing that Pirate is in good hands.

So sad the Pirate has to go through all this. Sad for you, too, gz. I hope you can sleep well.

GZ, respite periods like this are as important for the carer as the cared for. ... If you fancy something different to do with an afternoon, I'll be parked in New Lanark at least until Tuesday, maybe Wednesday.... YAM xx

After a good night's sleep, I went over there and got to work, getting him to sip his drink....we are getting there!

I'm glad he's getting help and in a place where he feels comfortable. Glad his friends have rallied 'round him!

I am glad that you are both having help and support. I couldn't managed without Danny & Emma, tbh. I need to try and get some sense out of Powys Council tomorrow about a care package. Just because we didn't go to the Community hospital, shouldn't mean we are denied help and have to be at the end of a long queue.

I hope that the Pirate improves once he is properly hydrated. I know how difficult it is to take a horse to water and persuade it that it really DOES need to drink!

Hope you get a little respite anyway.

BB steady decline, much faster than anyone anticipated. It can't be too long now..this is the bit he didn't want...but not eating or drinking brought it on

It’s amazing just a bit of careful planning and care can sort out awful symptoms
Palliative care centres are good at that xx

Blessings to you both, it's hard to let someone else do the caring, but he will get round the clock care and there will be time for you to get some sleep xxx Betty
