We visited Barrington Pottery today...and for a change decided to have a look at Barrington Court as well.

Getting inspired by a visit to the Carpenter and Family.
I wish we had village allotment gardens like these.  A community working together.

 some have chooks...each gardener has their own plot,of varying sizes

 The Carpenter and family have graduated to having a full plot

 beds prepared ready for planting..as little bare soil as possible..and the groundcover helps warm the soil too

 they grow a lot in containers as well,mainly because of the prevalence of Mare's Tail (Equisetum)

The polytunnel has been built from old garden trampoline frames, and the greenhouses and shed were free as were the very useful yellow shelves, used in hardening off young plants.
What is the point in things going to landfill when they can be used?!
The corner where the water butts and compost bins are standing will be the site of the next greenhouse.

 and a small orchard too!

Its marvellous to see the love of gardening that I inherited from my father, being passed on to my grandchildren.

travelling again

We are down in Somerset with my brother aka webmaster!  The website will be changing from wordpress to joomla, supposedly much more user friendly and also free.
Hopefully that will mean a regularly updated website!

Pirate is enjoying his sight after cataract op number one..looking forward to number two and catching upon reading!

and around the secondhand bookshop at Barrington Court

we'll be back to see the pottery..I'd forgotten that Paul's day off was Wednesday.

We're playing "musical chairs" with cars tomorrow...The Oily One gets my gold berlingo, I get brother's green one.....and we visit the Carpenter and Family before returning here.

I caught up with a large Somerset potter today near here....having just missed him three times when we were both in New Zealand!!    We came to the conclusion that the kiln that I am  working on was an electric kiln and has been converted to gas!

Dunkeld

A day out yesterday...riding the Scottish National 10mile time trial...cold, windy and hard....I was slowest woman,but I beat three men!!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a drive up from Monikie country park where the hq was east of Dundee, over Carrot Hill through the lanes...not always the intended ones!..it is called exploring!!..to Glamis, then to Dunkeld for tea.

 Now an interiors shop with the freemasons to the right..built as a church in 1874, closed 1939, used as a village hall mostly since then.

John Paul Jones

We visited the birthplace of John Paul Jones, at Arbigland on the Solway Firth.
One of five children of the estate gardener, sailor, founder of the USA  navy and commander of part of Russia's navy....died a pauper in France....
