We were out reasonably early to head over to Falkirk, where one of the national series of cyclo-cross events was being held, and some of our friends were competing.
It was a fresh and breezy day with bright sunshine, a perfect 'cross day!
The venue was Callander Park, with the finish being right in front of the house for a change, and the course going over and back several times over the Antonine Wall.
We didn't get a chance for a walk around the park this time, but there are some beautiful trees there.
It is free entry to Callander House, where there are exhibitions depicting the history of the area. There was also a travelling exhibition of medal winning wildlife photography.
All this run by the local council.
After lunch in the café in the house we went to park at the Kelpies. An hour's siesta then out on our bikes as the wind rise higher and the sky darkened.
We followed the Sustrans bike routes, on lanes and bike paths, over the Skinflats to the 1936, no longer swinging swingbridge at Kincardine, through the village and over to the new bridge and back over, following the bike path in the direction of Grangemouth a short way before going over the bike path bridge over the end of the motorway to rejoin the lane back over the Skinflats.
A few photos at the Kelpies, before getting back to the car before dusk and before the rain!

Though about a third of your photos didn't load here, not sure if Blogger or other problem...I loved seeing what I could of your trail. And I did see the post of the Kelpies earlier! Very nice!
Hey, I recognize that place! We went to Falkirk to see the Kelpies a couple of summers ago. Quite amazing, aren't they?!
Barb if you click on any of them you will be able to go through them all...I think it's a blogger problem
The Kelpies are something I would like to see - well done for getting out before the rain. We managed a short dog walk before it started lashing it down again.
Wow, art like that always draws me in. Big and surprising and well crafted.
I've only seen the Kelpies in blogger pictures. Wonderful.
Made me feel tired just reading about it.
Always such interesting pictures, I like to see the canals, could you get that burl off that tree for me to put on the wood lathe, I have never heard of the Kelpies but how fascinating.
Those cycles look as if they should be kept on the sealed road, I expected to see the riders covered in mud??
No problem with photos here, they are just great.
Looks like a good day was had, I'm loving those horse sculptures.
Cross is so hard on the landscape! That's quit a rut on the hill. I love the Kelpies, who ever did the sculptures was very talented.
Allison you would be surprised to see how quickly the ground recovers after CX. Certainly a lot quicker than a football pitch!!
