I got a message with a friend...did I want to go to Dumfries House for lunch?
Yes please!
Her mum was over from the Isle of Man ( they are from there) and we three went together. They had never been there..we had tried to go at least once a year to see hot the garden was developing.
We headed for the walled garden first..seeing how their fruit and veges were coming on...and the potager which I'd never seen.. possibly new since our last visit which was quite a while ago.
As we arrived back at the cafe the rain started..right on time with the forecast!
A tour round the house was an idea after lunch..but the tours were all full..you have to book online, you can just rock up and go..and you go around in groups of 20.
My friend will try and book for Sunday.
So we went to a local family run garden centre instead...I bought one yellow courgette plant as mine haven't germinated yet, and a tray of marigolds to go in by the tomatoes..companion planting against whitefly.
Home again to steady rain..no gardening this afternoon and the washing will dry on the rack in the kitchen!! It's a good thing that I didn't leave it on the line.

It looks like a nice place to visit. Love that flowerpot man.
I adore walled kitchen gardens GZ. Heligan in Cornwall is probably my favourite. I would loved to have worked in one.
This sounds like a nice outing. I wish we had gardens to visit here, but I will have to drive several hours to get to one.
Rain. We could use some of that.
...I like the pot man!
Sorry it didn't work out for the garden tour that time...fingers crossed next trip will include a reserved spot for you.
ooh cool a pipe man and looks like passionfruit flowers.
It looks very nice place have a nice time!!
Ooh, lovely. We went to D House for the first time last spring and it was wonderful. I want to go again to see the garden at a different season, but it's not exactly handy for Edinburgh. I'm working on it, though.
Good to get out with friends. Hope you are starting to feel better.
Lunch and a garden visit with friends sounds like a good time. You seem to get rain daily. For now, carrying an umbrella is essential.
The fountain is lovely. I could sit and watch/listen for some time.
Local day outs are just fine. I have many places I would like to go . I've been to all of them many times.
Susan it has been too windy for an umbrella!!
Their passionflowers are blooming already? Ours don't typically appear until summer.
Steve it is a warm well sheltered walled garden...with trees around the outside of the walls as well!
