He did a proper job on refurbishing it..and it is like new!!
Not a cheap job...but before he packed it to come back here, he was offered £800 for it.....
He guessed correctly..I'm not selling !
I'm looking forward to a warm workshop in winter...and if we get power cuts, somewhere to cook on.....

You will be snug with that. I miss not having the woodburner we had at Ynyswen, but no fireplaces here.
Beautiful. My parents 300 year old cottage in Wales had a small cast iron range for cooking, a stove with water pipes which heated the tank of water in the airing cupboard upstairs, another in the workroom with a pulley clothes rack high above it, and a posher one with windows in the living room. Much of the wood was free, Dad cleared fallen branches and trees in the lanes for local farmers and the council. He planted hundreds of trees.

That looks fantastic. Growing up we had one of those in our home. As you say, they not only keep you warm, but great to cook on too.

Oh wow - it does look wonderful. Our problem would be that tempting horizontal surface and not accidentally burning stuff.
It looks beautiful. And yes very handy. Power cuts were the prime reason we put in the second fire. It has no fan so it radiates the heat. While the fireplace only heats with the fan or just what radiates from the glass door.
The Stand alone also has a cooktop and I’ve actually used it many times in the past.
I hope you have many years of good service from it.
