A Rainy Day

A cold and rainy day, getting progressively wetter through the day.

I have been encouraged by the dental hygenist...and told off by the dentist. Who understood a little more when I pointed out that I'd had food poisoning in July. My health has been a bit down ever since-I just feel that I'm fraying at the edges a bit. Two teeth to mend and one to crown.

Then we started the Tour of Cardiff Scrapyards. On Boxing Day (St.Stephen's Festival in Welsh)
2009, eight cars in our lane had a wing mirror wrenched off. I lost the nearside mirror. Boxing Day 2010, only four ...and I lost the other one.
The Oily One came too, and £10 saw the purchase done. That is the easy bit- the door card has to be removed to get at the bottom two screws.....and getting it all back on is the worst part.

By then I was in need of sustenance and we were only two miles from Ikea....and had a very tasty Brie and Spinach Tart!!

Back home and time to get Teigar in her travel box. Cat "MoT" time-she gets a yearly once over, just like the car!! She needs to go on lighter food as she is getting on now, but otherwise she is fine...and vocal! Discussions were had with her whilst we drove....she isn't best keen on roundabouts, however easily you take them!
She has settled back fine and seems to have taken well to the change in food so far.

So no work today, just very busy. Back to the wheel tomorrow!

Back working!

New shapes on the way....I kept the one on the left
and here it is at the front. Still the one I like best so far. I quite like its size now so I need to throw it bigger to allow for shrinkage. Although smaller mugs and beakers sell well for smaller hands.
It mustn't be so small that it is a job to clean.

This time I have started designing on paper first, because of the cold weather. I'm not sure if that is a good idea as the throwing hasn't flowed so well as usual. Not that a month of being frozen out of the workshop has anything to do with it!!

The bag of clay and pot of slip for throwing are now sitting in the kitchen. I should be able to feel my fingers for longer tomorrow!

icy morning

There was hardly any rime on the workshop roof at 6.30am......by 8am it was covered!
The sky is clear blue, the sun is shining and the breeze is chill.

I've emptied the bisque pots from the kiln. Some had blown in the firing and I'm wondering if those had got frosted- a cheese plate, a tankard, the bottom one of a stack of small plates and two small reindeer. I retreated from the workshop as the inside of the window was iced up!

The washing is out and I'm waiting for The Carpenter to get up, then we'll go shopping...ran out of coffee, and only instant coffee in the village shops. I'm not *that* desperate!!

After coffee, the sun should be on the workshop and I can throw.

de-cluttering

A carfull of stuff has been taken to the local recycling centre...Good Riddance!!

I've been weeding some books and finding them good homes-sending friends to friends!

The workshop is looking tidier too-I don't like working in a mess.

It has been a nice bright day with a light breeze, so it was a relief to dry washing on the line.

Still more sorting to do, but at least I can see a large part of the floor in the Room of Doom.

A very good name for it...Thankyou Chez,
from www.downsizer.net !

hmff

Feeling most dissatisfied.

The heater for the workshop and house has been left in a workshop in Tewkesbury. So no work today, thanks to the Carpenter.

I've weeded a large binbag of clothes from my wardrobe and found a bit of floor in the Room of Doom.

Some progress made I suppose.

We had more snow, and traffic chaos mainly to the north and east of here.
Much was cleared in the village by persistent rain By mid afternoon the clouds descended to about 600 feet, and more snow was settling above about 800.

The Oily One is back, and resisting the idea of reducing Stuff. He needs motivation to do it!

New Beginnings

Not many sales at Hay Market today, but I got on with knitting mitts for us, and with designing this year's pot shapes!

Looking forward to getting back on the wheel tomorrow.

The Oily One's car was written off this morning- a woman driving two kids half a mile to school, turned right, across his front, in the middle of the village by the school.

She wasn't late for school. Kids need to walk too. She was obviously NOT thinking about driving.
She also didn't switch her engine off, so as her car dumped all its coolant over the road, she has probably blown her head gasket....and other stuff...is the word schadenfreude?

I know he needed to reduce the number of cars he has....but he didn't need this right now. At least he is OK..just two cars left now!!

jobhunting

cue hollow laughter.

I need another two day a week job to replace the one that finished at the beginning of November.

It is a cold and drizzly day, so I have been looking online.

I remember my mother's advice "go and get a nice little shop job dear" . Shop jobs are not "nice".
All the smaller shops can't afford staff. All the bigger shops' staff jobs are filled.

I'm looking at the lists of vacancies-all relatively short-and I can't see anything I'd be qualified for, let alone be considered for. Even cleaning jobs are far and few between and the last time I did one I damaged my back.

I can't say that I like this time of the year.
