Tomorrow I do my first Market in Hay on Wye.
They are fighting to keep it going, despite obstacles placed in their way by beurocracy.
Fortunately the town has a charter giving it the right for a market to be run.
I'll try and find out more....

Fight the power! Good luck on market day...
Lots of interest, some sales (but not enough)
Market Charter possibly granted in the mid 1100s....still hunting that information
Good Luck !
Kettering market ( Fresh fruit , the WI and fish straight from Grimsby on Fridays and Saturdays , Bric-a Brac on Wednesdays , teeshirts and duvets whenever)was relentlessly squeezed by the council till , now , it hardly exists . It also had a centuries old charter . But then , it used to have a pleasant and thriving town center too .
The chamber of commerce has taken over running the market, from the council and are doing a better job!
