Staying safe, Cyclone Gabrielle

We were fortunate here, high winds and rain overnight but not too much damage..a third of an Australian Ti tree, a big branch of a fig tree and away from the house a poplar branch.

To work!

Shortened a bit...but the rest of the tree will have to come down. If that falls it will go over my friend's workshop....the wind is beginning to rise again and might be strong overnight again.

There is a national state of emergency..only the third in the country. We are watching the footage from elsewhere in the country and feeling thankful.

We are lending a hand where we can, and sitting tight!!

Hope it doesn't get too bad for you tonight. How much longer are you in the country?

Susan we go south on the ferry on 1 March and fly from Christchurch on the 15th I think
The wind is steadily increasing again, now from the opposite direction. Otherwise we are ok
