Drawing and weather

Today we (women) finished clearing and cleaning the host studio for the clay festival and the others (men young and older) had a day out returning the borrowed pottery wheels...a Boys' Day Out involving burgers and round doughnuts filled with cream....but they did bring enough back for everyone who didn't go!!

I'm managing to keep on drawing..even if they aren't brilliant and exact, it is something.

Also I've started putting ideas on paper...no excuse for forgetting inspiration!!

It has been raining for about half an hour.

We are in a rain shadow of a local mountain. Even the village centre only about 1 km away has been getting rain sprinkles over the weekend..and neither the home or festival got any.

Now there is flooding in Hamilton and hail in Tamahere, less than 5km away!

And we have had thunder and some much needed rain.

Friends with a dairy farm near Cambridge have no green grass on their paddocks, not too far from here. They bought the hay bales that had been used as seating in the festival from the committee.. luckily she is also a potter so could ask about them! Saved the committee the job of storing and selling.

I like your botanical studies. One of my cousins does (or did) very precise botanical illustrations by dots. I'd not have the persistence to finish even one such.

Yes, I have a cousin who does ,.and teaches.. botanical illustration..Laura Silburn. Her work is breathtaking and precise. Not the way I work at all!!

I enjoy other people’s rough sketches so much – – it should encourage me to do my own and not judge them so harshly! Anything by hand is worthwhile—And how great you are jotting down ideas too! Seems your journey is doing its work 😊

Yes, an artist diary/journal is a great thing to keep, putting ideas and visions down where you may retrieve them later. Sorry to hear about rain patchiness, but also glad your festival stayed dry.

They had been working hard all through the weekend...it was a good way to send them off to do a bit more hard work but also to enjoy themselves...and we got to put our feet up for a much needed rest when we had finished!

I love your drawings We are our own hardest critics.
We need rain desperately. It’s not too bad where I am but around the food areas of our state. They’re quite parched

Your drawings are exquisite. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Your drawings are nicely done. I particularly like pine tree drawings in isolation or in a forest setting.
The draught conditions sound severe.

Nice to see some drawings! I'm glad you're getting rain, as long as it's not TOO MUCH rain.

Your artwork is alot better than mine would be, at least you tried and are doing a good job. How long are you in NZ for?

gz said...

Not long now.. until 6 March

Time flies when you're having fun! I cannot believe that you've been there a month already. Crazy.

I like your drawings very much. Wish I had such talent, but like playing music that too has eluded me.
The weather sounds crazy! Especially in places so close together to have such differences.

Just try and enjoy your own style..it will develop with use
