Gardening...and just living

Yesterday we had a trip in the back of a Ute with two pottery wheels on the trailer, to return them after the clay festival.

The potter's gate was interesting...

I did an hour or so's weeding this morning before it got too hot..

The vege garden here has heavy ground over mulch with planting holes..and each hole has an olla. This is a small terracotta pot shaped like an amphora almost, with a lid..buried in the earth to its shoulder. You water into the olla and put it's lid on. So the water goes just where it is needed. Weeds have spread over the groundcover..so I'm clearing that.

After lunch it cooled a little...so I started weeding a lavender hedge...that didn't get far!!...I beat a retreat, not wanting to be roasted by the sun!!

So more drawing...

I think I need to use a magnifying glass for some details..

And a little sewing ..Our Shirts, plus a small mending job...a draught excluder tiger...just head and a long tail...needed. a few stitches on its neck to keep its stuffing in!

I've nearly finished a square block for Our Shirts...had I got the dates right in my mind I would have brought the whole project..it fits in a small bag... But I just brought the one square block to show and finish.

Never mind...there is a quilt shop in the village..........

...here today, gardening looks a long ways off.

You are very busy, gz! I do like the way this trip is, not a vacation but a sort of home away from home. Just jumping into life where you are, instead of touristy things.

Some days are good like that, give you time to just breathe and rest. Although the heat, if not used to it, can be sapping - take care of yourself x

Is that pod a Chinese lantern, like the ones we have here in England? I love those in the fall. Haven't had much luck with growing them, though.

That 'Chinese Lantern' skeleton is very cool. (Do they call that plant something different there?)

I know it as physalis, it is the edible one with a round orange fruit inside

gz said...

No, it is the edible one, but possibly related..the lantern is uncoloured

It’s been way too hot here to go outside The weeds just have to wait

"never mind" . . . a phrase to cover all errors, no matter how miniscule,

And gives someone who already has a fabric stash to get tempted....

The fruit is Cape Gooseberry.

Thankyou! I wonder why gooseberry?! Or what is meant by goose....?
