All done and dusted by 9pm, including the crash cool to 1000 Centigrade. Apparently this improves iron glazes, obviates quartz crystal inversion problems ....and best of all I should be able to open the kiln between 11 and 12 noon tomorrow!!
Perhaps I can prevail upon The Oily One to play with the new lens on his camera, and get pictures on here via his computer.....

I hope so, because I would like to see the platters!
Yes, you are good at firing. Get the Oily One fired up with the lens; I would love to see some photos.
do you add salt to your kiln? we crash cool when firing with wood and salt. one time last year we crash cooled the gas kiln (no salt) because we were told it would help with our iron reds... it didn't and we ended up with a lot of ugly pots :-(
good luck with your firing, i hope The Oily One will get some good pics to share with us!
!
Hope he wants to try out the new lens, will be good to see the fruits of your labour!
When I was teaching, opening the kiln with the children was always the best bit. Magic.
Meesh, we salt in the kiln near Abergavenny-I couldn't do it here in the middle of the village!
Pictures, please! Is this the load with the writing on the plates?
Plates and bowls go in the bisque firing tomorrow- I think they should be dry enough
