Good and bad

Consultant meeting today, all systems go for week Tuesday..won't be next week as the consultant is on call for the A and E department.

Charlie is growing and spreading in situ, sideways and upwards, unfortunately traces found in lungs...which is better than liver...can be treated...should have a rescan in 3 months to see how fast they are growing and spreading.

So I am looking forward to a week off...sort of 😄 and we move forward.

He is doing his best to stay Posseetive...

We are also pulling things together to get our ailing boiler replaced and the 1970s roof insulation (70 mm at best) done properly..I think the present standard is 280mm? This is with a government grant to bring properties up two levels on the buildings scale. This needs to be got on the action list as soon as possible because grants change every financial year...and they won't be getting more generous.

I dread to think at what level we are at, as we also have single glazed windows..but the grant isn't for windows this time. The only plus point that this 1947 pre fab building has is a metal roof instead of wood and roofing felt, and it has been"wrapped".. insulated on the outside.

I have myself "double glazed" most of the windows inside with the cling film designed for the job..but that doesn't do a huge amount. It does keep the birdsong out....which does lead one to ask how loud is birdsong that you can hear it through a single glazed window?

It has been snowing again, but nothing is sticking under 200m above sea level...so we can see it on the hills, but nothing in the garden or the road outside.

Charlie.. sorry but you have to go. And don't come back.
I understand the issues with a prefab. Our old house was a 1920s self built bungalow made in a very similar way. No insulation but at least it had double glazing. This old Victorian house has insulation but single glazed leaded windows. Damp city!

Sorry Jaycee...but if Pirate had agreed to the Big Op last May, Charlie would have been gone....too late now..we just have to deal with what is.

How expensive is it there to get double glazed windows? I haven't looked into it here but we will probably look at it with my house at some point.

It's never easy to decide which course to take with Charlie. I'm sorry your course has created more difficulties.

Moving forward and Pirate keeping as positive as possible is good.
Hope the "week off" is peaceful and things fall into place for the boiler replacement and roof insulation.
Stay safe & warm!

You and Pirate should apply for sheltered housing GZ. You are both eligible and Pirates condition would definitely make you qualify. Ask his doctor to write to them or you should for a grant for double glazing... Good luck.

We couldn't stick that, Dave...and it would 1 be more expensive than our token rent 2 not have a garden to speak of and 3.....my workshop and kiln??!!

Amy, thousands! What I would love is double glazed windows the same design as we have now...that open inwards from the top or side, so that you can clean them from indoors!!
It might be possible to upgrade what we have now.
When this work has been done I will investigate if that is possible instead of putting whole new windows in

I dread to think how much cold comes in from a single glazed window. Most of the windows I saw in the uk and Europe are double. Standard here is single and the heat that comes in is tremendous. Replacing all our windows would mean we need to win the lottery.
Fingers and toes cross for the pirate.

I was curious about how loud Birdsong is so I looked it up —maybe you know this – –“ When birds start singing at the crack of dawn, they can reach 90.95 decibels, about the same noise level as a jackhammer”.
They don’t say what kind of birds…
Good thing surgery is on for the next week.

I am sorry that it has turned out that way and hope that you can deal with it in the best way for both of you x

The best I can offer is good vibes, gz and Pirate. But I'm hoping for the best on all fronts. Love.

Even though they give us money to upgrade it's still a lot to do. I'm planning to do some of my windows.

Such a lot going on, and yet you are calm and matter of fact. That has always impressed me about you, that you can convey that in your writing.

9 days. I am glad that Pirate has changed his mind on this. It must be such a relief for you.

What a rollercoaster it can be! You make what seems the best choices at the time you make them. Wishing you both the best of luck.

I hope you can get the boiler and the insulation sorted soon. Sorry about Charlie, hope it gets beaten this time. Hugs.

A challenging time for you, very deserving to take a week off imo. I am sorry to read that Charlie is on the move. You are made of stronger stuff than me if you can live with single glaze windows - it must be cold at your place - I hope your roof and insulation projects are done swiftly so you can be more cosy.
