Day 5 on Lewis

A day out today further south in Harris with a picnic on the quay at Bhaltos (Valtos), a couple of short wanders , the machair at Reef, the stones at Callanish...

A memorial at Reef to those who battled to keep the crofting way of life

Then we looked at a different art gallery

Before a detour to Callanish when the weather closed in an we headed for home

It could be here in Ireland. The rural scenery and standing stones are so similar. So is the wet weather.

It does look a little bleak today. It must have been a hard life back then.

Oh, the standing stones of Callanish -- how wonderful to have seen them! I'm envious!

So beautiful in a monotone, understated way. None of our flashy fall trees there, just beautiful stones, water, mountains. The standing stones are impressive! I wonder why the cross shape? Seemingly to be able to see from above?

Some very artistic photos. You have a good eye I love the stones. We saw a few different once’s on our trip and each had a “ mystic feel” about them

There are about a dozen different standing stones and smaller stone circles which looks to be aligned with the stones at Callanish..which are aligned with lunar cycles and the main alignment, like Stonehenge is with the winter solstice..when the year turns back towards the sun

What wonderful photos. Oh those beautiful beaches (reminded me when we drove up on the Road to the Isles and stopped at Back of Keppoch - white sand and the clearest sea (darn cold too!)

Callanish - I am very jealous. Somewhere I've always wanted to go.

Thank you for sharing your day.

My appreciation to you for walking in the chilly damp, and sending these lovely views for me to enjoy. Standing stones are so mystical to me.
